Good morning everyone. I just signed up with Vonage and am having the following problems. When I make an outgoing phone call, I hear everything twice, dial tone, ringing, voice mail menus, etc. Also an incoming call will ring only once and then cut off. My set up is as follows. I have the router provided by Vonage connecting directly to my cable modem and plugged into the wall with a splitter as I have the CPU of my computer plugged into the other phone jack on the splitter. I do have a wireless router that is now connected to the router provided by Vonage. All routers mentioned are Linksys. When I contacted Vonage last night, the service tech suggested that I would need to disconnect the land connection from outside the house. Does this sound right? I thought this process would be much easier than it has been thus far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yo Fab,

You hear things twice? Most I could think to offer you is to ignore the "echo". You sure you're not just screwy in the head? ok ok just foolin around.

I'm not sure why you are hearing things twice
I'm not sure why you are hearing things twice

I would agree with the rep you spoke with. Try connecting a phone directly to your unit to see if this fixes it.

You could be getting hardline loop back from that punched down PSTN block beings you have the device connected to the wall plate. Very Happy Eek

Thanks very much for your reply. Can you or anyone tell me some helpful hints in disconnecting my land line from outside the house or direct me to a post on this website that already explains it. I am not sure what I should be looking for when outside to get started. Thanks for your help again.

I have pictures of what I believe to be the outside line connection down in my basement if anyone would find them helpful to advise. I would be glad to email them. Thanks again.[/img]

Fad I didn't see that photo..but I will try to tell u where to look.
If you have a home look for a box that is either located on the side of your house, in the garage, in the back of the house, or down in the basement.

If you follow the phone line coming from the pole to your house it should lead to this box.

If the box isn't locked ucan open it and disconnect the phone cords the other company has plugged in there. From that point go back inside your house and plug in the rj-11 phone cord form line 1 of your Vonage box directly into the nearest wall outlet..

Wait 5 minutes or so after making this connection and check the other phones for dial tone.

I did not attach them as I did not see how. If it could be explained, I will post them or I can email them. I do not believe we have a box on the outside of the house. I have looked twice and did not see anything. What I have seen is in the back of the house in the basement. Our house is 86 years old and if I am correct it would appear that the phone connection from the outside is very old as well. Any suggestions? Thanks again.
