I work for an institution where each building evidently has some sort of switch. Inside the company itself, a number such as xxx-xx6-8398 can be dialed simply as 68398. The last 5 digits are unique and the switch knows how to route it. I am getting one of these numbers to not ring within the company at all. It simply forwards immediately to my Vonage number.

If someone on the local switch where the number resides calls this number, it routes to my Vonage line and shows me the Caller ID. If, however, the 5 digit number is dialed from another switch within the company, the Vonage number is dialed, but it comes across as Anonymous. I am assuming that it is considered anonymous because when it crosses from one internal company switch to another, it only passes the 5 digits. I am guessing Vonage does not consider that valid.

Is there a way for me to see those 5 digits instead of Anonymous?

Probably not, unless you can get the company to reconfigure their switches. The company is likely not even sending any caller ID information - the second switch is probably seeing it as an internal number and filtering it out before forwarding the number out to the public telephone network.

If you know someone in your company's telco department, you may want to mention it - that should be configurable. Whether the company WANTS it set up that way or not is another matter.

The telco guys say they are sending Caller ID. I can see it if the switch is local. Vonage posts the entire 10 digit number. It is when I cross switches that only the 5 digit number crosses. Even then, the telco guy says the 5 digit Caller ID is passing. I thought maybe Vonage did not know how to interpret that 5 digit field. Is there a way to contact Vonage technical support? I don't seem to see it on their web site.

Can you try forwarding the number to a non-Vonage line to see if that makes it through? I don't think I've EVER seen a 5-digit number on caller ID, I suspect most telcos would filter that out, if it's being sent.
