PostPosted: Sun Jun 24, 2007 12:32 am    Post subject: Unable to connect VoIP with UTSTAR ADSL connection Reply with quote Back to top

I'm trying to configure Linksys device via using BSNL Dataone connection and use UTSTAR ADSL Modem.

The Power, Internet and Phone 1 LED glows stable and I'm able to get the dial tone but unable to make any calls. When I dial to the number I get constant ringing tone even after the handset is picked.

Is there any basic thing I've missed out...can some one throw light.

I'm a newbie for these kinda forums so not sure whether I've provided enough information. Let me know whether any addl info is required.

Thanks

Sorry for a delayed response and here are the relevant data:

1. Location - Chennai, India
2. Your ISP name and type (BSNL Dataone DSL/Wireless modem)
3. D/L Speed : 493 KBPS and U/L Speed : 158 KBPS (dslreports.com)
4. Modem : UTSTAR ADSL/Wireless
5. Vonage adapter : RT31P2 (How to check this, actually ?)
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter : PC via wireless
7. Issue facing : I'm able to get only dial tone but unable to make calls. Also during incoming calls, even after the receiver is picked up, I continue to get ring tone.

Can someone help please.

I see two issues here. First is your network connection. Tell us more about that. How have you got things set up using a wireless connection?

Second, your tests results are moderately awful. The upload speed is marginal at best, and the jitter from the server to you is just awful. I doubt that this will ever work unless you can get with BSNL and get that corrected.

I'm able to do the browsing using my wireless connection. But sometimes it is required to restart - not sure whether this info is useful though.

Also, the speed test results vary very frequently. Here's the latest result taken just now:

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 300288 bps
Upload speed: 178464 bps
Quality of service: 53 %
Download test type: socket
Upload test type: socket
Maximum download pause: 611 ms
Average download pause: 90 ms
Minimum round trip time to server: 310 ms
Average round trip time to server: 494 ms

Voip test statistics
--------------------
Jitter: you --> server: 35.6 ms
Jitter: server --> you: 33.2 ms
Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 %
Packet loss: server --> you: 8.5 %
Packet discards: 0.0 %
Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported Voip lines: 3
Estimated MOS score: 3.2

Is it required to change my connection necessarily ?

Those results, while better, are not good enough. You need to get the connection fixed.

I feel its not the connection alone.

I tried with a different connection where another gizmo is working fine - but still no hopes with it.

Will keep you all updated.

What kind of phone do you have plugged in to the RT31P2? Do you get a steady phone light on the RT?

Day in and out it grows stranger, atleast to me.

Now, the Phone LED doesn't glow - which was earlier working fine and I was receiving the dial tone. Now - no hopes.

'm Still trying. Will keep you posted.

Meanwhile, anyone with same kind of difficulty faced ?
