I'm a new customer (just signed up today, hoping to take advantage of some features that Callvantage does not offer). Reading this thread makes me sick - feel like I need to return the adapter and get out before 30 hours - forget 30 days.

I cannot stand spammers and if the service is that bad - maybe I'll stick with the Skype account I was testing. I expect to get what I pay for and at least Skype is cheap with poor service.

ca2dc, if you don't use "Refer A Friend" on Vonage's website, then there is no cause for alarm. They won't send anyone e-mail saying you suggested they sign up for the service. Only when you use "Refer A Friend" is when Vonage appears to misuse that information. I say "appears" because although I've never referred anyone from the website, I too am taken aback at Vonage's use of those who have.

Vonage used my name for marketing, completely without permission. They were provided information with an expectation they would act as a responsible trustee, then turned around and broke that trust.

I "Was" a vonage customer up until about 10 months ago. Then Time Warner Cable offered me digital phone for an additional $10 over my current cable charges, so I grabbed it, and was planning on keeping it for a year until that promotion ran out, and then I was going to get Vonage back.

2 of my friends just told me that they received emails from Vonage using my email address. I put their email addresses in for the refer-a-friend, so that if they joined, I would get the months free. I am no longer a vonage customer, so that even if they did join based on the email, i am not even getting anything free. That is not the way the refer-a-friend was supposed to work, so they are using my email address to spam my friends. There is no other way to describe it. I think the FCC should be notified about this. This is a breach in trust as far as I'm concerned.

Well, now I am definately not going back to vonage.

first of all, they totally are refusing to honor the $50 amex refer-a-friend offer. I have reported this to the Better Busines Bureau (which they failed to become a member of as of March due to a bad record). Secondly, unlike VERIZON, they charge you $10 to doangrde your plan but let you upgrade it for free. This must be a violation of some law. Thirdly, they now charge taxes inthe NYC area - I got charged $8.50 this month alone. SO, am I changing back to the good old phone co? Yup you better believe it. Plus then the phone will work inthe case of another blackout.

I would think they charge taxes because the government tells them to.

Not much Vonage can do if you lose your power, you could have a back up power. Most people have cell phones now, that is why you are asked to enter another number in case you lose your internet connection.

Most VOIP companies charge a few if you change services, and it is in the TOS, so if you didn't read them then you can only blame yourself.

How long ago did you sign up a friend? I believe they have to be a customer for 3 months.
