I am trying to set up my home network. Currently i have my internet connection coming from broadband router into my Vonage router and then with an ethernet cord into my desktop. I now have a laptop and would like to put a wireless router into the system. I have read the other comments but my setup varies slightly in the fact that my desktop does not have wireless capability. In which order do i set my routers and from which router do i run an ethernet cord into my desktop? By the way, I purchased the linksys router with speed boost. A detailed explanation would be fabulous, however, i understand if you do not have the time. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you very much. |

You currently have two routers, the broadband router and the Vonage router. Do you plan to keep the broadband router? If so, plug the wireless router into that one and leave everything else the same.
If you want to eliminate the broadband router and replace it with the wireless router, then you need to see if the wireless has good QoS capability. If it does, put it where the broadband is now and set QoS to favor the Vonage box. If it doesn't have good QoS, then put the Vonage box first with the wireless plugged into it.
It doesn't matter much where you plug your desktop in if you currently are getting good performance. If you do a lot of heavy downloading and the Vonage box is strained, then plug the desktop into the first router in the chain. |

thanks for your response. but yes i do plan on keeping my broadband router and this broadband router only has one port in the back. so my question is what sequence should the router's go in and where do i extend my internet connection to my desktop because it does not have wireless capability. sorry i hope i am not being difficult but i am not the best with computer stuff. thanks |

If the new wireless has good QoS, then plug it into the broadband. Plug the Vonage box into the wireless and set QoS in the wireless to favor the Vonage box. If the wireless doesn't have good QoS, then plug the Vonage box into the broadband and the wireless into the Vonage box. In either case, plug the desktop into the unit that's plugged into the broadband. |
