Hi guys,
I have both a softphone account and an F1000.
I thought I had read some place that I could extract the settings out of my softphone account, and input them into the F1000, thereby being able to cancel the F1000 account, and use the F1000 for $10/month.
(I assume the softphone account can still be used, just not at the same time as the F1000?...doesn't really matter as I don't use the softphone much).
Can someone explain step-by-step how I get the settings out of the softphone and into the F1000?
Thanks... |

I think that you are running into one of the strange policies that Vonage runs with. If you have a Vonage Branded F1000, that was used with a main Vonage account, you CAN'T use it with a Vonage soft phone account. On the other hand, if you have a retail, unlocked F1000, F1000G, or F3000 (NOT Vonage branded), then you can put the soft phone information into the phone and it will work fine.
For what ever reason, Vonage treats soft phone accounts very differently from main accounts - the do tell you the details needed to program "any" device, and the don't let you use Vonage branded units that they sell for Vonage primary accounts. |

Thanks Howie,
Yep...after I posted I did even more searching and found that a Vonage-branded F1000 will not work with the soft phone settings...too bad.

P.S.
Plus, I've been having a devil of a time getting my PocketPC running SJ Phone and the Vonage softphone settings to make any connection at all, while the F1000 connects to those same access points just fine. |

A Pocket PC with the Vonage setting "should" connect to Vonage, but it will normally not work very well as a phone. The biggest problem is hat these things are designed to connect to WiFi - exchange data, like e-mail, then drop off. To stay registered to Vonage - or to any VoIP service - the WiFi radio needs to be active all the time, which will give you a battery life of just a few hours, plus it runs warm since it is using up the battery.
On the Cellular/WiFi PPC's, the sound for VoIP also comes out of the wrong speaker (the PC speaker) instead of the ear piece where the cellular call sound comes out. These things should work somewhat for special use, but are not designed as WiFi VoIP phones. |
