Hello. I am interested in your recommendations on an expandable, cordless phone system to use with my Vonage service.
Currently, I have a Linksys WRT54GP2 router/adapter paired with a 6-year-old Siemens Gigaset 8825 phone system with several model 8800 handsets. I'm having problems like clicking noises when talking on a wireless handset and difficulty answering calls from the handsets. Sometimes when the phone is ringing and I press the green "Talk" button th the phone to answer, the call drops.
I suspect that these issues are being caused more by the phone system than by Vonage or the Linksys adapter. There seem to be a lot of 8825 users on the Internet with similar issues and many of them are using traditional phone service, not Voip.
Do any of you have any recommendations on an expandable cordless phone system to use with Vonage? Features I would like include:
*Clear sound (obviously) *Speaker phone on both the handsets and base station *A voice mail indicator light that works with the Vonage voice mail system *Mute buttons for both the handsets and the base station *An intercom system *Supports two lines *Expandable with at least 6 handsets
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |

The problem with the Siemens set is probably that it works on the 2.4Ghz frequency which interferes with wireless from your router. So to start off limit yourself to looking at 5.8Ghz phones to avoid problems with it interfering with the router wireless. This is a longtime conflict regardless of the type of phone service you are using. I have a Motorola (MD681 with 4 additional handsets) that I've been very happy with over the past few years, but it doesn't meet all of your specs. |

Panasonic KX-TG6702B Motorola MD7081 Uniden TRU9496 | While I have no experience with two line integrated telephone systems, I CAN tell you that my single line expandable Panasonic 5.8 GHz phone system works FLAWLESSLY! I've been a fan of Panasonic phones for many years, and this being my first experience with their expandable systems, I have to say the features are unique and unbeatable. Panasonic systems may be a little expensive, but as the saying goes - you get what you pay for. They're tough little phones for sure that will give you years of good quality. (They have for me!) |

I just ordered and received Motorola MD7081 (and MD7091 on the way for my parents). I didn't do the research I should have (bought this phone on looks mainly). I hear the Panasonic being good. One thing about this phone (in which others have mentioned) is that the range is poor. I found this to be true. It doesn't work that great outside my house. Probably about 70 feet away from the base (outside) it is unusable (at least in one direction).
I also can find a few "nulls" in my house if I position the handset "just right" (but nothing major). Within the house it works well (so far). My house is a ranch which is 58 feet deep by 47 wide (plus the laundry room & garage which forms an L-Shape (total width is 83 feet). The base is in the den (rear left corner of the house). The whole house is covered (some claimed it didn't work from the other side of their apartment). I can operate in the yard (obviously), at least close to the house (BTW: My house is on 2.5 acres). My 900 MHz phone went further. I was able to get to the mailbox (barely) with the 900 MHz (about 220 feet I estimate).
Other than this I like the phone. If I had to do it again (knowing the range) I would have probably selected another phone.
I have some questions:
1. Do 5.8 GHz phones normally have good range (better than mine)? 2. What can I do to increase the range of what I have? Can I do something with the internal antenna or tweak some adjustments inside the base?
My setup is line 1 for Vonage, and line 2 for Dock-N-Talk (which I borrowed from a friend), but I found Xlink BT which looks better than Dock-N-Talk (up to 3 Bluetooth phones). This I plan on getting one to go on line 2.
I hope I helped others (and maybe some can help me). |

We have the Panasonic KX-TG6702B and have added 2 additional handsets to it. It works great and has awesome range. I live on a 1 acre lot and I can use it anywhere on my property. |
