Well my WRTP54G router, that i have had for 1.5years is finally acting up.

Every 2hours or so it will totally start to wig out, lights will start flashing, and then it will drop my internet connection and my phone line. i would have to manually restart the modem for the phone line to start working again. it just disconnects me from the internet. its not my cable modem or ISP ive tried without modem and everything works fine.

I've called Vonage to do firmware upgrade, and once they did that, it still drops internet connection. for some reason when they did upgrade, i had version 1.00.62...then upgraded to 6.00..something..then after restart the modem it went back to 1.00.62. but the guy said at there end the router says its been upgraded. or whatever.

now im in desperate need of some help. i have DNS setting set to 4.2.2.2. 4..2.2.3/4/. but ive had those settings for a long time for about 1.5 years so iono what else to do.

any help is appreciated. i will reply back to any questions. thanks

If your WRTP54G has started dropping your internet connection along with your phone line and the cable modem is not the issue, it's definitely time for a new adapter. Since your device is out of warranty, Vonage more than likely will not replace the device for free. If you would like to continue with a phone adapter and router all-in-one, I would recommend to you the Motorola VT2542 that Vonage offers. Contact Vonage support in regards to the purchase of the VT2542 as a replacement for the defective WRTP54G.

Are you sure those DNS settings are correct? Where exactly did you get those numbers from?

hey thanks for the reply.

i got those dns settings from Vonage, when i wasnt able to connect to the internet. and also my internet went really slow 6months ago so someone posted some settings and it worked magically.

so i just got off the phone with Vonage for the 4th time. they said now it might be the router, and they want me to replace it.

what other Vonage routers do you recommand. linksys or the motorola ones?

I'd get a separate router, like the Linksys WRT54GL (which has been very adequately serving my network for over two years now with nary a hitch).

If you do that, you might even find that your WRTP54G can still serve as a Vonage-only adapter. Once you take the routing load off the WRTP54G, it's a good unit. Of course, this assumes your WRTP54G is not outright defective.

Even if it is, you are better off replacing it with something simpler like a PAP, and getting a separate router.

your device might have been flashed with a new firmware which is actually still under beta testing. try hard resetting your device (press the reset button for 30 sec). do this three times. this will restore the device to factory defaults and to the last known working firmware

That is possible. The 5.x firmware release seems to have caused a lot of people problems.

My WRTP54G is running it, but I'm only using my WRTP54G as a Vonage device and a dumb switch; I have a separate router. So the new firmware doesn't cause me any problems.

I tried a few factory resets and it remained at 5.01.04. I think you have to call Vonage support to get your device reverted back to the 1.00.62 firmware.
