During the CompUSA closing sales, I picked up a D-Link VTA-VR device, just because it was dirt cheap ($5 out the door). Figured at the very least, I could probably play with it apart from my Vonage account.
However, I was thinking that I might like to replace my existing Moto VT1005 analog adapter... for instance, the VTA-VR is smaller, can apparently be wall-mounted or it can stand on end, etc.
My questions: - I know about the "Bought it at the store?" link on Vonage's website. Is there any cost to activate a new device on an existing account and phone number? - What is the general consensus - is there any voice quality difference between the two devices? Or is there any other reason I might want to stay with the Motorola device? (I'm not using the NAT ability, and it's behind another router, so there'd be no difference in the network setup between the two devices.) |

There is no cost to add a new device to your account. As for the quality, I believe both devices have the same chipset in them so they should be basically identical in terms of quality. You can always add the VTA-VR to your account and test it out. If it is not working as you want you can change it back the VT1005 right from your web account(move a line, under the add-ons tab). Testing it out is the best and really only way to tell if you are going to be happy with the device, or if you are going to be able to tell the difference between the two devices voice quality. |

D-Link VTA-VR device:
I am totaly happy with this device. It works flawlessly. The sound quality is perfect and I have never had to reset it for any reason. I think it is the most trouble free device Voange offers.
I would highly recommend it!!! |

Last weekend I did what your thinking of doing. D-kink from CompUsa. $10 +6%. I did the online change of devices through the Add-Ons/Move A Number. I experienced a webpage error when I clicked Finish. Then lost my Moto from the devices list; and the D-link didn't show up. A blank page for devices. I had to call CS. They added the v1005 back. Then added the VTA-VR. I haven't experienced any problems yet with the VTA-VR. And now when I go back to the M A N, both adapters are there; So I could go back and forth. As long as I don't have a web page error. Maybe a Firefox problem. The sound quality of the VTA-VR is pretty good. |
