I just bought a v-phone (was a little weary since im running vista) but decided to give it a shot. First off, when I start up the software app, it gets to the splashscreen and goes no further....it does nothing at all. I tried all the tips I could find on getting it to run on Vista but I can't get it to start up. This may be a real dumb question but do you have to activate it before it'll allow you to actually start up the software (ie. bring up the dialing menu)? I just don't want to waste 20 bucks if i'm not going to be able to get it to work on Vista. Thanks for any help. |

go to HTTP://www.vonage.com/activate
get the 12 digit mac address from the bottom of your v-phone box
follow the steps. If it does not work call or email support.
I had trouble but the got it right for me.
BE ADVISED that unless I have been misinformed by vonage you can only have one mac address registered. When I activated my p-phone I lost use of my linksys router and no longer have "landlines" and that ticked me off! |

Thanks for the help thusfar. However, what I want to know is whether or not the software will work without me having to activate the phone (ie. I want to bring up the dialing menu etc). Right now, I can't even do that. Obviously, I don't expect to make any calls without having it activated but I would like to know whether or not I'll *actually* be able to get the software to run on Vista. |

Yes, the software should load without being activated first. It will just say unsubscribed on the bottom of the dialpad, with a link to activate it.
As for getting it to work on Vista, make sure you have a shortcut to the autodown.exe program found on the v-phone drive. Make sure the shortcut is set to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2, and that it is also set to run as an administrator. Launch the v-phone from this shortcut, as this is the only way it is going to work on vista. If this doesn't work, make sure the drive is actually showing up under my computer. Finally, try the -phone on an XP machine to make sure you just don't have a dead v-phone.
As for what billproyor said about having only one MAC address on your account at a time, that is technically incorrect. You can have an infinite number of devices, however you can only assign a number to one device at a time, much like you can only have a cell phone number assigned to one cell phone at a time. |

Thanks for the reply! I have already tried everything you suggested but it's still a no-go. I don't have access to an XP machine ATM but will check to see if it's dead ASAP. In the meantime, I formatted the v-phone out of shear frustration. Is it now simply a 256 flash drive or is it possible to download the pre-loaded software and re-install it to see if that fixes the problem? I've already tried the instructions here vonage-forum.com/ftopic19613.html" target="_blank">http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic19613.html and it says the v-phone software is updating but nothing ever gets (re)installed. I am at a complete loss here |
