My friends are getting sick of the beeps. We've been plagued with them from the day we got vonage some 3+ years ago. But I'm really tired of them telling me it sounds like a 2-year-old playing with the touchtone phone every 30 seconds. I've called support about the beeps at least six times and was one of the first people to report it. I'm at my wit's end on what to do to make it resolve!
Also, about three days ago, Caller ID info changed. What was coming up as "John Smith" and has forever (one of my best friends) is now coming up just the city and state "Valdosta, GA" What was coming up as PCS Phone GA is now coming up as "GA Wireless." Ditto Verizon here in Tennessee. Anybody else noticing this? Trying to avoid a call to customer care.

No explanation for the beeps, I've never experienced that issue before. I wonder if replacing the adapter would solve the problem...has Vonage suggested that to you? Which adapter do you have and how long have you had it?
As for the caller ID info for landline numbers, the name of the caller has been replaced with city and state and cell calls are now displaying as you have described. |

device is RT31P2 linksys. I can't even remember but I think we started with a Cisco router, did the moto, did another linksys. we've had a maybe four different since we started back all those years ago. Always had the beeps, regardless of the router. they come and they go.
Man, that is very disappointing if this is what "caller id" is going to. Giving me a city and a state is not nearly as useful as giving me the name of my caller. Got a call from a local state agency in downtown Nashvile but it showed up as "Tellico PL, TN." I got my last call and it showed the name of the caller, like it has since we got CID. I really hope Vonage reconsiders what I consider to be a real downgrade in a feature we all rely on.

Re: the beeps, this is a VoIP thing. VoIP doesn't cleanly pass touch tones through, so what it does instead is try to recognize when you're using touch tones and then reproduce them on its end. If it guesses wrong, you get a spurious tone.
It might be that your voice happens to fool the system a lot. (I get beeps very rarely, maybe one a month.) It might just mean that your voice and VoIP systems aren't very compatible and you might be better served by using a traditional phone line.
As for the name display issue, it's possible that Vonage is displaying whatever information it has. Name information isn't always available. Perhaps it's displaying this information instead of merely displaying "name unknown". I don't know for sure, just a theory... |

yeah, women have more problems with beeps than men. it really hates it when you laugh and fortunately i usually am laughing a good bit of the time in my life
no, there's definitely something changed with my CID in the last 24 to 48 hours. i am going to reset the modem and see if it makes any difference and then call support. i don't want my CID to be this generic going forward!!! |

Caller ID information from landline callers is now displaying the caller's name along with the phone number. Cell phone callers are displayed as "Cell Phone" XX (XX=State abbreviation) plus the phone number. So it's back to normal, for now anyway. |

I had an enormous amount of beeping on my line and finally figured out that the Linksys router was too hot. Please see this topic for more information:

thanks so much for trying!! ours is on top of a file cabinet. only thing on it is another router. I can separate them and see -- but we had the beeps back when we didn't have the second router and also had a totally different brand. I think I'm still a victim of "chick beep".
