I've had Vonage for over a year with VTech cordless handsets. As an addition, I just got the Softphone this week.
Does anyone know where there is specific information, i.e. user manuals for the Softphone that go beyond what Vonage publishes on it's website?
More specifically, what do the "enable / disable" functions mean for the "G771W" and "G729" buttons mean? Should I enable or disable either?
Also, does anyone know how to make the speed dial function work?
As an aside, while I like Vonage and have been happy with the service, I'm really, really disappointed by their support. I've burned up 20% of my Softphone minutes on hold waiting for really poorly trained support personnel to literally try and look up the answer for "how to make the speed dial work." I've complained about this to no avail. I have yet to be offered any sort of credit for the wasted minutes spent on hold with Vonage!!!
In my opinion, this is truly pathetic. I'm not a novice user, I tried searches on Google, in the Vonage forums, etc. before calling - knowing that I'd have to hold and wait. So far nobody has been able to answer any of my questions or offer any resources or any sort of "time spent on hold" credit for used up minutes. If this is "customer service" or "technical support" no wonder they are in trouble! |

That is the codec selection. It is the equivalent of high(G711) and low(G729) on the bandwidth saver in your web account for your standard line. By enabling both it will allow your softphone to negotiate to either as needed. Unless you are having audio problems, leave both enabled.

When you add someone to your phone book you can select a "speed number". From the main dial pad screen simply dial the speed number you assigned to the person you are trying to call and press the green dial button. |

Thanks for the info and fast reply. I actually did some further searches and found this user manual that I couldn't find before:
http://www.vonage.com/identity/vonage/pdf/xpro-userguide.pdf
Also, there is another way to use speed-dial, that I seemed to have discovered by accident - if you open the phone book, highlight the name of the person you want to call and press the green call button, it calls them.
I will try your other suggestion as well. Interestingly, the user manual does not say how to use speed dial either - though I read it very quickly.
Thanks. |

No problem happy to help. There is a single sentence about speed dial in the user manual on page 18(second sentence of the second to last paragraph). They seem to have hidden it pretty well. |
