Post subject: Links in Forum Messages Get Error in Firefox 2.0.0.4
Dan, Et. Al.,
Forgive me if this has been previously discussed but I can't find it. I've recently switched browsers from IE 7 to Firefox 2.0.0.4 and now when I click on a link inside a message I get the following:
This page does not exist on this site.
You can not redirect to another site from the Vonage Forum.
If you are viewing this message, you most likely have received a spam email with our address in it.
This email was not sent to you from us, but from some spammer scum trying to redirect to their site from our site.
Please view the headers of the spam email that you received and report the sender to their ISP.
Thank you,
abuse [AT] vonage-forum.com
I just thought I'd let you know, and also to see if you had an end-user work-around. Thanks!

I know what that message is..., but I just tried an external link using FF 2.0.0.4 and it worked just fine.
Can you give me a link example?
Thank you,
Dan

Dan,
Here are three posts with links that do not work.

I would have posted a fourth but I wasn't sure if that link didn't work because the site being linked was down. Nonetheless, since upgrading to Firefox 2.0.0.4 I can't click on ANY external links embedded in Vonage Forum posts without getting the above error. I've cleared out all sorts of stuff that I could think of to try and rid myself of errant problems, but still no luck.
It's worth mentioning though that when I highlight, copy and paste the links into a new browser window or tab, they open just fine.
Any help you or anyone else in the forum may be able to give me would be sincerely appreciated.

Hmm, they are working correctly for me.
What FF extentions do you have installed?
Are you using a proxy or a anonymizer type of service?
I am just looking for clues here....
Again, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback.
Dan

Dan,
I currently have installed on my computer Tor & Privoxy & Vidalia bundle: 0.1.2.14, and the Torbutton extension.
However, I made sure that Tor, Privoxy and Vidalia were completely shutdown (as opposed to just deactivated), and that I also disabled the Torbutton add-on, checking that the "Direct Connection to the Internet" radio button was checked in Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Connections.
No other extensions are installed. I'm as perplexed as you are, however I'm going to let the matter rest for tonight as it's almost 11 p.m. and I need sleep. (I suspect you do as well, but not knowing your schedule, who am I to say.)
I want to thank you for helping me troubleshoot the problem. By the way, I just re-checked and external links DO STILL open up just fine in IE 7. Go figure.

GOOD NEWS... I FIXED THE PROBLEM. (Sorry for all caps but I was excited.)
To make Firefox 2.0.0.4 more secure, I disabled the sending of the HTTP Referrer Header in "about:config" (I set it to "0"). Sure enough when I reset it back to it's normal configuration of "1" it processed the external links just FINE.
Amazing how simple that was when I realized this morning that I'd turned off the Referrer Headers.
Thanks, Dan, for helping me troubleshoot.
