Hello all, need some help.

I have a Vonage VT2442 Vonage device. Recently I was configuring the device by going to and had disabled the DHCP and changed the IP address of Vonage device to

My Vonage device is connected to my wireless laptop. Now I cannot go to either or

The cable that is connecting my wireless laptop and VT2442 is a regular LAN cable.

Do I need a cross-over cable to connect to

OR the device VT2442 comes with an option to reset the entire device configuration to factory default. The reset button at the back of the device didn't work....

Any particular reason you made those changes to your device? That is an odd address to use as a default gateway for you network and you don't mention using static IP's so you would need the DHCP server on. Easiest way to correct the situation is to use the reset button on the back of the router, it needs to be held in for about 12-20seconds(Vonage even recommends 30 seconds) to have any effect.

If this really doesn't work, then try to set a static IP address on your computer in the proper range and try connecting to the new IP address you assigned to it. Use the following settings for this:

As for needing a crossover cable, the answer is no, you would only need that if you were doing something like connecting 2 computers where the send and receive paths of the cable needed to be crossed to line up.

I have received this response from Vonage folks. Do you think this will work. I have a wireless laptop and my wireless router is 2 floors below, so somehow I have to get my VT2442 device working (this is a non-wireless device). I thought somehow if I can this Vonage device internet via my laptop then this should work, so far it has not. Here is a guide from Vonage. Checked for the cross-over cable and it was around $45.....

Here is what you can do:
1. Use a paper clip and push the little button (pinhole) next to the power jack at the rear of the Motorola box for minimum 10 seconds with the device plugged to the power. It will restore the default settings of the router.
2. Let's say you have Windows XP; Connect the Ethernet port of your network adapter with the WAN port of your Motorola with a cross-over CAT5 cable.
On the wireless network connection you should enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). You should allow ICS to automatically assign IPs or if you set static IPs you have to make the change to the router's interface as well.
You should pay attention to firewall settings as they may block the connection.
Best thing would be to try connecting a computer first with ICS and if you are able to get internet, replace it with the Vonage box resetted.
Network bridge connection in windows is not really a good idea, it connects two subnets and does not actually does what ICS does. I would recommend ICS.

If you won't be able to establish the connection it does not necessarily mean your Motorola has a problem. You can buy the wireless bridge from a store with a generous return policy, and try it. You may call our technicians to assist you.
Using the hardware should be way less hassle than ICS. (With ICS you have to keep your computer on)

That should work, but it's not a solution that I like, since it requires that your laptop always be on to maintain phone service. I would prefer to buy a wireless access point to connect to your wireless LAN and provide ethernet service to the Vonage box. That leaves your laptop out of the loop all together.
