Anybody know what the ssh password for the VT2442 is? I know that the username is 'Admin' but all the passwords I've tried don't work.
Some of the ones I've attempted are: Admin, admin, user, User, router, Router, tivonpw, Tivonpw.
Anybody know what the real password is? |

If it is the same as the superuser for the GUI on the router, which I believe it is, then it is ever changing. It is a string that is randomly changed every time your device takes a change from Vonage's tftp server. It used to be that tivonpw would give you access to pretty much anything in the device, then as this became more well known they adopted this new method of securing any privileged user accounts on devices. This makes it so that even if one of their reps has to give you the credentials to do a firmware update, voice factory reset or whatever that password is only good for a short amount of time. If you can tell us what it is that you are trying to do by SSHing into the VT2442 we can see if there may be another way to accomplish that. |

Basically, I want total access to my router. I am an embedded software developer and it's always useful to know how other people have implemented things. Wireless is now a fast growing area of development and I need to keep current so this is a good way to do it.
Besides, I bought it; it belongs to me. If I want to peek under the hood, so to speak, I should not be prevented from doing it. At some point I will probably upgrade the hardware to something else and then I'd want to be able to play with it, perhaps even put another OS on it as they has already been done with the Linksys WRT54G.
Right now all I'm interested in is getting a look inside, which is my right after all.
Alright then, if the password is always changing, what algorithm is used to make the change? How long is the password? Letters and numbers, upper case, lower case, etc. Perhaps I can discover it on my own. |

No idea what algorithm is used to make the change. I just know that it changes. I have two of the passwords for mine that were used over the course of a tech support call if that might help you. The first was 8mMIENIN then the second was 2dgBdZBx, I probably have more written down somewhere but I cannot locate them right now. |
