I have been jacking with this for a week now, and after 2 phone calls to Vonage and 3 trips to various computer stores my phone still doesn't work.
Here is my situation:
Verizon Fios modem>D-link DI-624 wireless router>?
I have the Motorola VT2542 wireless router/phone adapter sent from Vonage. When I hard wire the 2542 to the D-link router the phone works fine, but I need to have the phone out in my office which is about 100 feet from my house. I bought the most powerful cordless I could find, but no dice. Reception is too bad.
How do I set a system up whereby I can alleviate the need to run an ethernet cable out to my office?
Vonage suggested using my computer as a wireless bridge to the 2542, but I am an idiot and can't figure out how to get this to work.
I have a MacBook with OS X 10.4.9 with Parallels Desktop running Windows XP.
I know there is some way to set up a wireless access point out in my office and connect the Vonage phone adapter to that, but I can't seem to find enough information for my base level of understanding to help.
I have also purchased a Linksys WRT150N, and a Linksys PAP2 phone adapter in my effort to find a solution.
Anybody have any ideas? I really need to get this thing set up because my business phone has been transferred and I'm having to use my cell phone to make and receive calls.
Thanks |

You could use your electrical wiring as ethernet by using this http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=533
Then you can plug the phone adaptor into your office. This will only work if the office electrical is connected to your home electrical.

Jack,
Thanks for the information. That device looks pretty cool and could be the answer to my problem.
However, I have to have my phone working by tomorrow, so I gave up and buried a hard line to my office.
I do have another part of the house that has a very low signal from the router, so I am going to check into the DHP 301 to solve that problem.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my query.

Motorola VT2542 has wireless routing capablity. But the thing is, it can only transmit wirelessly, not receive. So the best thing is to have a very long ethernet cable from your house to your office. But the voice quality will be bad. Since it will have lots of losses due to the distance. I suggest to have a Internet connection in your office and have the device attach to it.Or 2 ethernet cables and a repeater( 1 80m and 1 20m ethernet cable). The setup will be: Verizon Fios modem>D-link DI-624 wireless router>80m ethernet cable>repeater>20m ethernet cable>vonage device(which is in your office)>phone or PC |
