How to connect ATA to main phone line (box outside house) ?

I want to connect the ATA to the main box outside my house. Can someone explain how ? I checked the box outside and it is not very straightforward.
That way I don't have to buy any splitters, phones with multiple handsets etc.

just d/c the wires hooked up to the box outside and label them DO NOT RECONNECT!!!! or put your own padlock on the box then the ata just plug it into any phone jack in the house and then every other jack in the house will be live to the ata
