hi. i just added a virtual number (in my new local area code). i got the confirmation email with the number, but it doesn't work yet. "at the subscriber's request, this number does not accept incoming calls" is the message i get. the virtual number is listed in my account info online, etc. is there anything i need to do to get it ringing? reboot my router/adaptor? |

virtual numbers are numbers which point to your primary number, so your friends who is not local to your number can call the virtual number and not be charged for long distance.I guess you know that.It is only for incoming calls. So basically it takes a couple of hours for it to work,(approximately 3 hrs after signing up for it)..Your right you will get a confirmation thru e-mail..I think rebooting your device is not needed..but try rebooting it so that it will be refreshed.. |

thanks for the 3hrs info. it just doesn't work. i called support and they said i wouldn't be able to use simulring and anon. call rejection in conjunction with the virtual number. this makes it near-useless to me. besides that, the support person said they could only do a ring test on the line with these services disabled. i was out so couldn't go do it then.
later on back at home, i disabled the simulring/forwarding and anon. call rejection and it was still a no-go. calls to the number do not go through no matter what. i'll be calling support again when i'm home and have time to deal with this, but of course am already paying for it... |

virtual number won't work on simul ring..it works with ring list..ring list is the same as the simul ring but the thing is that it only works for vonage line, putting yourcell phone number to it is useless. But still you can assign your cell phone number to simulring if you want to..Well you can't make a virtual number ring..calling a virtual number will ring the number assigned to it,basically its your primary vonage line. |

Definitely call.
However you have your primary # configured, your virtual # will work the same way. The system doesn't treat calls from one number any differently from calls on the other.
When I added a second number last week, it was up and running within an hour. |

I have had more than five virtual numbers, and not one of them has ever taken more than a few seconds to start working.
I think you've been given a bad number, one that isn't really in Vonage's allocation.
As other people have said, as long as the only number in your ring list is your main Vonage number, all features enabled for your main number, including simulring and anonymous call rejection and everything else will work just fine with your virtual number.
The message "at the subscriber's request, this number does not accept incoming calls" clearly means that something is wrong, and you need to demand that Vonage assign you another number right away if they cannot fix this one before you get off the phone with them. |

check your online account to verify that your virtual number is linked or points to your primary number.
If you know anyone who has vonage also, ask him to call your virtual number. if the call goes thru using vonage line but not thru PSTN, then you were given a bad number.
Vonage will give you another virtual number free of charge. |

i'm on the phone w/ support now and indeed the PSTN access is NG. they came to the conclusion i was issued an unavailable number. go figure. now they have no other 212 #s available.
now i am back to square one and it's taken almost a week to get this far i'm paying for this??
thank you guys for your help thus far. while it is ridiculous you need to rely on others for support, it's reassuring people like yourselves are here to help
i'll keep this thread updated with any new info. crazy thing is, even after going through ordeals such as this, i still prefer Vonage to giving evil Verizon my hard-earned money.
