Hi. I'm hearing impaired and I wanted to cancel the phone service. Do I have to go through the relay service to cancel the service? I rarely use my TTY (teletypewriter for the deaf as it works by translating from text to tone and back to text in the other end of the line) and I wouldn't need to be spending $30/month (24.99 + tax + relay service/recoverable fund), so how do I go about cancelling the service if I'm hearing impaired.
I'd rather be assumed that I'm the only one living in the apartment, since I'm the only one using the phone service, but of course I do live with my family but I'm moving out really soon after summer.
I subscribed to Voip last October, as far as I remember.
By the way, I do keep my TTY for anyone who has a TTY machine (especially for businesses), but I don't use the Voip service. |

Yes, you need to call to cancel. What I would suggest then is to have someone else (neighbor, friend) call for you then to disconnect service if they give you a hard time. |

Well all I want to do is to cancel my phone service, but it looks like I can only call Vonage to cancel it (through a relay service).
Thanks. |

Okay... Got a response...
"To cancel your account and to protect you from having another person terminate your service without your knowledge, we need to verbally verify the owner of the account. Please call our Account Management Department at 1-VONAGE-HELP (1-866-243-4357). We are here to help you Monday Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST."
By "verbally," maybe I presume I can't call Vonage through relay...
Hmm... Maybe someone would use the relay service to call Vonage to terminate my account...
Well, businesses these days don't trust relay services because they may think of "telemarketers" instead of "relay" and may hang up. (You can search for threads about relay scams/pranks/hang-ups here.)
I'll try and contact Vonage's Account Management Department tomorrow.
Thanks. |
