Hello. To take advantage of the QoS feature of the Motorola VT2142, I have it between my cable modem and my Linksys WRV54G router. I work from home and my company has me using an Altigen VoIP phone which is connected to the WRV54G - along with my PC.
My problem is (as one would expect) that on the Altigen phone my transmitted voice gets garbled on the other end when I do anything on my PC that transmits data (sending email, uploading FTP, etc.). I would like to set up the VT2142 QoS to give priority to my transmitted AltiGen packets the way it apparently does, rather well, for my Vonage phone.
Is it as simple as creating a QoS rule on my VT 2142 that contains the IP address of my company's VoIP server? Thanks in advance for the help. |

Sounds like you need more upload speed. |

Unfortunately, I think I am stuck with what I have. My goal though is to sacrifice the speed of upload transmissions from my PC for the benefit of VoIP speed. My understanding is that this is where QoS comes in. My problem is getting the VT2142 to do this. Since that second VoIP phone communicates with only one server, can I configure QOS on the VT2142 to prioritize at packet solely when it sees it encoded with a specific destination IP address? |

Have you logged into your Motorola router and are there even options for configuring QOS? I don't use a Vonage router, just a standalone device with my existing router but from what I have read, Vonage routers don't have any sort of QOS settings that you can customize but rather it is just built into the router that it prioritizes Vonage packets. I could be wrong because I have never played with a Vonage router. |

Well I just downloaded the user guide for your device and it looks like i am wrong. It does have QOS settings. Unfortunately though, I have never used that device so I can't really help you with the settings. Hopefully somebody here can give you some guidance because it looks like the user guide doesn't give much detail on the settings. Good Luck. |

Thanks for checking that out. I think I may have it configured properly. If only there was some sort of log that indicated what was happening. |

Are you getting quality calls when using your computer at the same time now? That would be the best sign that you got configured properly. |

My Vonage call quality is perfect. That is what I expected since my VT2142 is connected directly to my cable modem. It is my other VoIP phone my employer set me up with that I am having intermittent trouble with. If I try sending an email while on that phone it breaks up. I'd like to get the VT2142 QoS to consider both the Vonage calls and the other VoIP calls as a high priority. |
