Need help. My friend uses USB connection for his internet (USB cable modem to USB port on PC). He was told by an agent that he can use his setup with Vonage without buying extra equipment or device. He was sent a Dlink VTA. He was told he can use the ICS on windows. He tried it many times but it did not work. What is he doing wrong.
He has an ethernet port on his PC. |

How many computers does your friend have networked together? An ethernet connection from the cable modem to the computer would be faster than the USB connection. Here is a link to ICS:

Although theoretically possible, using ICS to get the VTA and computer working together is simply put 'stupid'.
Basically, it would require you to have the computer on all the time. If MS decides to send down a patch down the road at any time, it could potentially hang or kill the ICS setup, placing Vonage 'off the hook'.
Also, USB ethernet connections are a lot slower than a standard RJ45 connection.
And, if the cable modem/computer setup was done via USB, chances are it was done because the computer does not have a network interface. In this case, note that in order to get the VTA connected to the computer to set up ICS, you need a network interface.
Best option is to get a router ($0-$50 depending on sales, specials, etc.) and hook up the computer on one port and the VTA to the other port.
