I have a Motorola VT1005(?) router, but it only has one CAT5 port going out. I want to hook up my Playstation 3 and my phone together. Do I need a router or hub? Or should I buy a different Vonage router that has 2 outgoing ports? Hope you can help, thank you.

I suggest that you get a router. Hubs just split the physical connection; switches separate the signal based on the MAC Address, and routers have a private IP network that is assigned and then splits the signal intelligently.

Just make sure the network looks like this:

Modem - Motorola 1005 - New Router - PS3/Computers

Otherwise, the audio quality may suffer.

so long as you are happy with your vt1005, I would agree. Get a router and plug it into your vt1005 ethernet port and then connect your ps3 to the new router.

I would recommend getting any cheap wired router.

Agreed, unless you anticipate some heavy duty use of the internet in the future. If that's the case, get a reasonably decent router with QoS capability and put it in front of the VT1005.

Will this one work?

Can I also unplug the Vonage router and take a CAT 5 from the cable modem to the ps3? Annoying, but just until i buy a router.

I'm not familiar with the router, so I can't comment except to say that Dlink seems to be a pretty good company. On the other hand, take a look at this thread with respect to the DGL-4300: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic19757.html

I don't understand about taking out the VT1005. With it in, you have one output for other things, such as the PS3. With it out, you still have one port- the modem. What are you accomplishing?

If the router has good QoS capability, connect it to the modem and connect the 1005 to one of its LAN ports. Set QoS to favor the 1005. If the router does not have good QoS capability, connect the 1005 to the modem and connect the router to its LAN port.
