My ISP is Comcast (Bremerton WA), receiving broadband internet + digital cable. Supposedly there is plenty of bandwidth to support both, and the Comcast tech told me that the two signals occupy different bands in the spectrum.

I have the Vonage router connected directly to the cable modem. My wireless router is connected to a port on the Voip router.

When Voip calls are received, the wifi signal consistently drops very low or drops out altogether. The signal doesn't usually recover until the Voip call is finished. I've tried placing the wifi router ahead of the Voip router and get the same result. I also set the bandwidth saver to medium quality. No change.

It seems like this wasn't an issue until we added the digital cable service.

Any idea what's going on? Thanks for your help.

EDIT: the components are:
Motorola SB5100 cable modem
Linksys RT31P2-VD Voip router
Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless G router

MaxPause: 94 ms

Any chance you are using a 2.4Ghz cordless phone? That could most definitely cause interference with your router. Its not really a bandwidth problem. The signal strength between your router and PC have nothing to do with bandwidth from your ISP or what sevices you are getting or how much bandwidth you are using when making a Vonage call.

Yes, there's a 2.4ghz upstairs and a 900mhz downstairs.

Do I need a different wireless router?

The bandwidth thing didn't make sense to me either. Rolling Eyes

Well I have heard stories of wireless routers and 2.4Ghz phones working well in the same environment and all of the sudden cause problems with each other. Your wireless router also operates on the 2.4Ghz frequency. The first thing I would try is using a regular corded phone and not one of the cordless ones when making a Vonage call and see if that eliminates your connection problems between your router and pc.

Agreeing - a bandwidth issue didn't sound quite right to me, but I couldn't imagine what else it could be. I'll do some research on the phone/wifi interference issue.

Dump the 2.4 ghz phone and go with a 5.8 or use a corded phone.
