There's this one telemarketer, whom when calls one of the Vonage Boxes on our network, causes the Linksys RT31P2, to totally kneel on it's knees and crash. This is my fathers Vonage box. I have the same model box, same firmware, and is right beside my fathers box, in the wiring closet. Mine has gotten the same call, but it didn't trash the box like what happened to my fathers..
The way it rings the phone is odd too. When this specific telemarketer calls, instead of "riiiiiiing.......riiiiiiing", it produces a "riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing", which can be for a whole minute! I didn't even know a phone could do that (then again, maybe it could if it's producing the high AC voltage long enough)..
What can be causing this? Voip quality is perfectly fine. Got 8Mbps up and down, fiber optic internet. Both boxes are connected to a Cisco Catalyst 2900 switch, which is connected to a "Smoothwall" router, which has a QoS module installed, specifically for Vonage..
being it only happens with this ONE telemarketer number, i doubt it's a network problem, and more of a firmware problem.. but hopefully someone can pitch in with an answer to this one.. |

There's something called waveform on the Vonage device. Have the tech support guy set this to standard rather than high power. |

would that crash the Vonage box on a specific telemarketer though? it's really weird, but hopefully the long ringing is that.. |

Well, could be something with the voltage, sure, causing it to ring, or it could be some type of latency issue. Who knows. Have to start troubleshooting somewhere. |
