Has anyone had to deal with rebooting the Moto 2542 router either through the menu option or unplugging the power? Did the settings hold or did you have to reconfigure the router?
I love this router (so far a bit over a month) but learned a new feature/problem when I had to unplug the router and plug back in. It lost all my configuration such as security settings, user id and password, DHCP and all other settings. I thought perhaps this is only when you unplug the power.
SO, I reconfigured and then exported the settings, then reset to factory defualt again and rebooted for good measures. Now I imported the config.bin. The router automatically reboots after import, all settings were lost again (I did not unplug).
Oh and by the way, I am not referring to restarting the wireless feature, I am talking about rebooting the router or unplugging and plugging it back in.
Any ideas? suggestions? comments? |

This is a very well known issue with the Motorola VT2542. If you reboot the device or if there is a power outage to the VT2542, all settings, including security will be lost. |

I have had the D-Link for years and love it. I will admit to putting it through its paces,. Since I work from my home office, I have even had the occasion to spill coffee into the thing (and I do mean INTO it) and it is still going strong. Great quality. Though I would not reccommend spilling coffee into your router, I will be replacing this one with the same or the next generation should the need ever arise. |

This is a problem with the VWR as well. Vonage customer support seems to be too stupid to realize this is a huge problem for people the have proprietary data on their network. I have been fighting to get a solution to this problem for over a year now and I just received an e-mail indicating the VT2542 will solve this problem!!! Is this still a know issue that they have not addressed? Is there any solution to provide a secure network after power failure? Does customer support mean "we don't care about your problems"? I am tired of the same hopeless e-mails from Vonage customer support. Seriously do I need to buy a generator for their crap routers dedicated to keeping my network secure? Help me, customer support won't. |

I can't believe their still trying to push the VT2542 when they know it's defective. Contact the Vonage Executive Response Team @ 1-888-580-4020. Explain to them the issue you are currently having with your current device and that you would like your defective device replaced with the V-Portal. DO NOT accept the VT2542 as a replacement.
If I were you, I would get a quality router ( I use a Linksys WRT54GL loaded with Tomato firmware) and place the V-Portal behind your primary router. The sole purpose of my V-Portal is to act as a phone adapter and not a router. I think you would be very satisfied with this type of setup for your network. |
