I have had a VT2542 and I've been unsatisfied when using the internet with it. All phone calls are incredible quality, no dropped calls or poor connections. But the internet is brutal.
If the router has been on for 2-4 days the internet becomes worse than a dial-up connection. Not necessarily in speed, but in making initial connections. I have to refresh pages 10 times before they load properly. Bit torrent is always brutally slow. |

Rogers is my ISP but I think that is irrelevant. When I encounter this behavior if I plug my computer straight into the cable modem it performs perfectly, without resetting the cable modem or my computer. Or if I plug the cable modem into my other (non-voip) router it behaves perfectly. |

I had the exact same problems with my internet with the VT2542. My ISP is Cableone, and whenever I connected directly through the cable modem all 3 of my computers' connections were great. However, when I connected to the VT2542 (via wireless, and/or ethernet) it was worse than dialup on most occasions. |

onabeerrun, earlier you recommended the VT2542, did you determine the cause? was it a faulty VT2542? Did you get a new one that worked better? |

I have my VT2542 connected by ethernet to my desktop PC and wirelessly connected for my laptop. I suffer no degradation in internet speed when connected directly to the VT2542. Test speeds run with and without the VT2542 connected are identical. Using Speakeasy speed test, on average my download speed is: 22286 kbps (2785.8 KB/sec transfer rate) and my upload Speed is: 2720 kbps (340 KB/sec transfer rate). |

I've been messing with QOS devices, and routers (DD-WRT) with QOS. But none of those have worked well.
I saw the WRTP54G and saw it has QOS. But the Motorola 2542 has it also.
How configurable is the Motorola? And what do you guys recommend?
I just need a wireless router with voip and good QOS.
Thanks,
Mickel |

Does anyone know if the free deal is still in effect? What is the current cost of the motorola 2542? Has anyone seen it at a retail store anywhere? Can it be ordered online? |

Alright, i don't have / used a Motorola VT2542 before, but i do have a VWR, and its the worst router I've ever used.
I personally use Ventrillo and i am constantly getting Disconnected because of this router.
Or Maybe playing a game *x box Live/Computer* And i will get disconnected.
My dad has problems connecting Every day.
So I will be getting the Motorola VT2542, and i will post how my Experience goes.
This thread is pretty old though, so is that stil the most recent router out there? |

Yep, 2542 is the most recent and most likely the last, WiFi Vonage Router. Seems like they are phasing out all WiFi and multiport routers and moving towards the new V-Portal. The 2542 is no longer available through vonage.com and was never sold in stores. |
