The Dlink VWR was absolutely 'poo' when I had it, don't bother, get the Motorola VT2542, much better device! |

so far it works really well...
does anyone know if I can setup remote desktop or the like on my home computer (which is using the Motorola VT2542 as a router)... so I can access my home computer when I'm out the office, or out of town....
(I have XP Home... not Pro..) |

I use LogMeIn Free to remotely access my home PC and it works great. Just create a LogMeIn account and install LogMeIn Pro on the system you would like to remotely control, in your case that would be your home PC. There is a 30 day free trial or 120 minutes of continuous use, whichever comes first. After the free trial to LogMeIn Pro, the software will revert to LogMeIn Free if you decide not to purchase. LogMeIn Free has all the features of LogMeIn Pro except for remote printing and file transfers.

Thanks I tired it, but it seems to be much slower than remote desktop, also if my computer goes into standby (which is the setting I have and want to keep...) than I cannot get into my computer at all...
so my question is... is there a way to control my computer through my router....
also is there a simple cheap way of hooking up a printer to the router... so when I move my laptop around the house I can print (the laptop is my only computer)... so it would have to be connected some how directly to the router.... |

When I remotely login to my system with LogMeIn, it's as if I'm sitting right there at my desktop PC and it's very fast and responsive. Were you remotely connecting to your laptop through dial-up, dsl or cable? I'm not aware of anyway to remotely control your computer through your router alone. There are two other programs that you may want to try that are very popular for remotely controlling your PC. RealVNC and GoToMyPC. Before you install one of these programs, make sure the remote software will allow your laptop to be remotely controlled while in standby mode.
If you wanted to hook a printer to a router, the printer would have to have an ethernet port. You might want to consider a wireless printer for your laptop. With some wireless printers you can either connect it by ethernet to your router or go completely wireless. |

I've been using the Motorola VT2542 for almost a month now and this device has been nothing short of excelllent. The phone call quality is as clear as if you were talking to the person right next to you. One of the stand-out features of the Motorola VT2542 is voice-over-data prioritization, which allows users to talk on the phone while using the Internet with no reduction in voice quality as voice packets are given a priority over data packets. I use to use a Hawking HBB1 broadband booster with my previous Vonage device (WRTP54G), but it is no longer needed now that I have the Motorola VT2542.
The wireless range of the VT2542 I find to be very good, I've also set up port forwarding and a home VPN server on this device...everything just works as it should. If your internet connection is A1, the VT2542 will perform like a champ...that's been my personal experience. |

Output 12V-1.25A
I hope this helps. |

personally I would go with the VT-2542. I am on my second VWR and it is going out on me. Internet connection comes and goes, and sometimes people I speak with on the phone get patches of silence during the call. Range was ok when it worked, but encryption was horrible. |

New to the board, lots of good info here!
I plan on ordering the VT2542 but will need a wireless card for my laptop.
Any recommendations?
Thanks! |
