I am currently thinking of switching to the basic 500 plan but I am hoping someone who uses the basic plan can answer a question. I have looked on the Vonage site but I don't fine the info I am looking for and I would rather take the advice from someone with experience than a Vonage rep who probably doesn't know the correct answer. If I make international calls will I only be charged the price for that call or is it sort of a double whammy? Meaning, if I make a 5 minute international call, does it count towards my monthly 500 minutes in addition to paying the international rate also? A make a few international calls a month, maybe 20-50 minutes but none are to the "free" locations you get with the unlimited. However, if I would get hit with the double charge(at least in my mind it is), I might just leave my plan as is and pay the extra $10 a month. Thanks for any help! |

Short answer, NO!
You get 500 USA/Canada outgoing minutes. You get unlimited toll free calling, unlimited incoming calls. You pay per minute for international calls per the pricing shown online, they do NOT count toward your 500 minutes. We use much less than 500 outgoing per month and love the plan. |

Excellent - same question I had ! Trying to convice my parents to switch their 2nd landline to Vonage, just to use it for Int'l calling.
Currently I think they pay at least $40 for that line (originally set up for faxing but they only get JUNK faxes anyway). This way they can still have the fax machine for those rare occasions (they think they still need a fax machine), but at least they can use it for Int'l calls.
I don't want them to switch their primary line, as service with comcrap is iffy sometimes... I can live with it, but they couldn't... |

I also concur with su_A_ve. Vonage treats US/Canada calls differently than inter'l calls. That's why people with the unlimited US/Canada and a few select countries still get charged intern'l calls/minute according to their int'l rate schedule.
Likewise, I have done the same. Whenever I call an int'l number that specific call is separated and treated differently in their billing system. So there is no double dipping. |
