Post subject: VOip--small office cabling requirements
I am researching installing
Voip
phones in our small business. We have about 10 users in the home office, and 4 remote locations with 3 users each.
Can someone give me some advice on two questions:
1)Office cabling. Can I run my phones over my existing office LAN cabling? Do I need to install additional cat 5 cables to each office for the
Voip
phones? What is the advice on wall jacks?
2) We connect to our remote offices with VPN tunnels running over a DSL connection. Can these offices integrate into our
Voip
phone system in the home office?
Thanks so very much for any advice. It is truly appreciated!

To use one LAN cable connection to each office you have to first verify that the SIP phones and the office PCs will be able to run in the same IP subnet.
How are the SIP phones getting access to a DHCP server that can supply the addtional SIP options? Unless the remote office routers implement BOOTP/DHCP relay then the remote office SIP phones will have to be manually configured.
Strictly speaking this was not a question for a board discussing
Vonage
SIP endpoint devices.
