I have been with Vonage since 2004, never had a complain. Recently however, I have started having intermittent noise on the line. Sometimes it is there sometime it is not. Sometimes it last a couple of hours, sometimes the whole day. Spent an hour+ with tech support while having noise, they have tried various things but nothing helped. At the end they suggested that the unit is bad and suggested buying a new one. I did a search and it seems that I am not alone with this issue, and even exchanging units does not always help. Can anybody confirm that changing unit will help? Currently I have RT31P2. Thanks |

Sometimes changing units is the answer, sometimes it isn't. If you haven't already tried changing phone ports for your service, go to your account on the Vonage website and do that. If that doesn't work, please give us all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum. |

Since 2 Lynksys devices involved it is possible that power adapters used were switched. It seems that by switching them around solved the problem. Will report if it is not so but as of right now noise is gone. So before doing anything else if you are using multiple routers make sure correct power adapters are used on each one and they are not switched around. Hope this helps somebody else. |

I hope so. Just out of curiosity, what was the second Linksys device? Were there any markings on the adapters that would tell us what the incompatibility is? |

while reading the posts on this thread I was 'guessing'/'assuming' the person had a linksys device, there are the occasional linksys which have had the hiss or noise with certain firmware versions..sometimes on a particular phone port, when I read the post about two linksys I thought I'd put my 2 cents in; the noise thing is so much NOT a device issue usually .. but it has occurred a couple of times with linksys as a device issue.......I think you'll see some posts in here from people who had a noise issue with the RT31P2 and called Tech and had the line changed to the other port and issue resolved; ... or the WRTP54G and had a firmware rollback...and issue resolved; I think a good question to ask with topics like this is 'how old is the device'..followed by..' min, avg or lots of phone usage??' I'm starting to realize that the devices and routers made 'special' for another company...(NOT just Vonage)..really seem to only have a 2 to 4 year life span...(Cisco excepted) |

I had exactly the same problem with my RTP300, great for two years then static!!
It's the Vonage Linksys router that finally goes bad, When it was replaced with a new router (from another Voip service provider) than all the static problems just went away
Same house phones and wiring, same broadband modem and internet provider.
If you call to "Cancel all phone numbers" then you can get Vonage to send you a free replacement. The regular service reps are not authorized to do this. |
