I want to get an external serial modem to use with my Tivo but I want to get one that is caller id compatible with Vonage. I heard a lot of modems are not caller id and the some that are have caller id problems with Vonage. Can you guys recommend an external serial modem that will work for me?
I don't know about others in here, but I don't understand the question. Vonage adapters are either straight ATA adapters or combination router/adapters. Caller ID is a function of the Vonage adapter only. It doesn't have anything to do with the modem that's providing internet service for the adapter.
I want to know which external serial modems other Vonage customers have used. If you have not used any external modems with Vonage then you probably can't help me. With that said, let me better explain my situation and hopefully you will understand my question better.
I have Voange (which I like a lot) and a series 1 Tivo (which I like even more). I am posting my question in this forum because this forum is named "Alarm - Tivo" or something close to that, so this seems to be the appropriate place for this question.
My goal is to display caller id on my TV through the Tivo. This seems simple, but my Tivo's internal modem died so I need to connect an external serial modem to the Tivo's serial port and connect the phone line to the modem.
I heard that a lot of modems don't have caller id and some that do, have caller id problems with Voip. Therefore, I am hoping someone out there says "hey, I use external serial modem xxxxx and the caller id works fine with Vonage."
I just noticed that you stated "Caller ID is a function of the Vonage adapter only". Maybe I don't understand your statement but I don't think that is true.
Caller id works fine on all of my phones, so a modem that has caller id capability should be not different.
