problem: this started last night, the phone light on the adapter is blinking yellow. when i take the phone off the hook it blinks green and i can still make and receive calls and my internet is working fine. was just wondering should i be worried about the light blinking yellow?

just another thing also and this might be fixed soon cause i have lowered the bandwidth and im getting a new phone soon. but i get a lot of comments that i break up on the phone and most of the time its minor but for some reason past 9pm est it gets worse and to the point where whoever im talking to has to hang up cause it cuts out too much, however i can hear them fine the whole time. but like i said i hope me lowering the bandwidth and getting a new phone helps that, but if anyone has other suggestions i would appreciate it.

thanks.

The yellow blinking light on your adapter is an indicator to you that you have a new voice-mail. When you take your phone off the hook, you should also hear a stutter-tone. After you delete or save the voice-mail, the yellow blinking light will cease and it will return to solid green. Log in to your web account or dial your Vonage number to access the new voice-mail(s).

In your case, you shouldn't have to lower your bandwidth...you have plenty of upload speed. Are you running any file sharing programs when this problem occurs? Which model of router do you have and does it have QoS features?

With regard to the yellow blinking light, is it accompanied by an odd sounding dial tone? Sort of a stuttering sound, almost a beeping sound, before the normal dial tone sounds? If so, that's simply your voicemail waiting indicator letting you know that you have voice mail to check.

thanks darrell.

and i do use torrents, however i never run them when im using the phone, and after i use a torrent i always reboot and reset my connection. when im on the phone though there is always someone on my computer on the net but not doing anything except visiting websites.

i use a Linksys router BEFSR41.

could my breaking up have to do with my phone? cause it is very old and hasn't been used at all in over three years.

Can you readily access another cordless or corded phone and plug it directly into your Vonage adapter and test it to see if it cuts out or drops the call? That will let you know right away if it's the phone itself that's causing the problem.

Does the Linksys BEFSR41 have a QoS feature? If so, try setting the Vonage adapter to the highest priority.

i wont be getting my new phone until tomorrow so i will know then.

and yes i believe this router does have a QoS feature. before i try to mess with it though, i have had to open ports with this router for torrents, would i go about using the QoS feature the same way? like typing the address in the browser and getting to the settings?

Before you purchase a new phone could you test your old phone, say at a friends or neighbors house to see if you have the same drop-out issue? Is the phone you currently have corded or cordless, and if its cordless is it 2.4 or 5.8GHz?

Yes. Type the address into your browser and see if there is a setting for QoS where you can set the Vonage adapter to the highest priority.

it is a corded phone, and i didn't think of this until now but i just called my grandparents they live a few houses down and she says its crystal clear, so could it just be caused by the distance? cause the person im calling all the time lives in Canada, and if that is the problem will setting the QoS solve that?

Distance should not matter. Since local calls are crystal clear, I would not change any settings for QoS on the router. Are you calling a landline or cell phone number in Canada? Is the person you're calling in Canada using Voip also? Does he or she experience this same issue when they make local calls in Canada or calls to the States besides you? I'm trying to determine if the issue is related to the other persons line in Canada rather than your Vonage line or your phone.

For troubleshooting purposes, continue making local calls and if you know someone else in Canada, trying calling them and see if the issue persists.
