yes she does have a land line. and i have just made several calls to friends and they say it is clear. so you say i shouldn't set the QoS? or do think i should at least try it? cause she only has the cutting out problem with me so i don't believe its her phone.

and she does receive other calls from the states, and they use normal phones and international prepay cards, and she hasn't mentioned having this problem with those calls.

If all other calls are clear, I don't see why changing the QoS is going to positively affect the calls to and from Canada...but you can try it if you like. Does this solely when you call her or when she calls you? Can you try calling her in Canada at a different landline number?

she does have two different lines and it happens with both of them but the strange thing is she says all other times its very minor like it cuts out for a very short time so she doesn't miss anything im saying but for some reason and this has happen for two nights in a row now, a little before or after 9pm est it just gets very noticeable, like cutting out for whole sentences. and i have to call her, she cant call here cause of her parents, so i don't know if it would happen if she called me.

when this starts i shut down my comp unplug everything and reset everything in order and it still happens.

Try calling her at a friends, or relatives house, or anywhere else so as to determine if this issue is just related to the two lines you normally call her on or if it's specifically related to all calls to Canada.

ok i will talk to her about that when she gets back sometime later today. and i will let you know any other info, the other day actually she was at her sisters house and i called her there so when she gets back today i will ask her if the same thing happened. i also just want to say im not mad or upset, i just got Vonage on the 10th and i am very pleased with the service. its just this is a long distance relationship and us being able to talk anytime for any amount of time is very important so i would really like to solve this problem.

I totally understand...I've been there and done that and the last thing you need is for there to be a problem with your phone service or devices.

well sorry it took me a while to get back to you darrell but i have been busy. i ended up taking my router out and lowering the bandwidth and im not sure which one of those did the trick but now all my calls to her are crystal clear.

but seems im getting another prob now, everything works fine all day long but the past three nights starting at around 8-9pm est (thats the time before that my calls would cut out too much) my phone light goes off and my internet cuts off and on basically for a few hours, although last night it only lasted about an hour. before i call Vonage or my isp though just want to ask if anyone here knows what might be causing this one?

any help is appreciated, thanks.

Disconnect everything except your cable modem from your computer and monitor your internet connectivity. If you lose your internet connection, problem solved...your isp is the problem.

Is your internet connection going directly to your cable modem, i.e. no splitters, or are there splitters invloved? Check for any loose connections you may or may not have.

Another suggestion: Manually enter DNS information into your router and/or your NIC. Vonage devices don't play nice when used as DNS proxy servers.

yup i think my isp is the problem, when it started it again two nights ago i unplugged Vonage completely and just plugged my cable modem up and it still didn't work. so i just got done talking with them and they suggest power cycling but what they told me after got to me "if you continue to have problems please call Vonage costumer service since you are using their device to route your internet." this is even after i told them i tried plugging my modem in by itself and it still didn't work.

i just dont get it at all, works fine all day without any problems then starting at 8pm est i notice slow down and then it cuts off and on for 1 to 4 hours. anyone ever heard of something like this?
