For weeks now I have had Squeal, Beeping, Morse Code like sounds on the line through a Linksys Vonage router. I have called Customer service who adjusted settings, I have played with every possible wiring configuration. I lowered the quality setting...tested line speed.... Various things would seem to fix it for a few hours to a couple of days but the "mice squealing playing taps and sending Morse code" returned again and again.
I think I might have finally isolated the problem.
If I have the Linksys Vonage router in the cabinet or on a flat surface it is getting too hot then starts the squealing. So I have the router upright so it can fully vent and stay cool.
At the moment this set-up has alleviated the problem for a few days. I hope it continues to function properly. I have reconnected the system to my house wiring and plugged in all the phones again.... so far so good.
I hope this might help someone else who has encountered this problem. Post your results here so others can learn too! |

Thanks for posting the workaround. My Vonage adapter (Linksys WRTP54G) has never done that, but I do know that cooling is important.
What's the ambient temperature in the room you have your adapter in? |

room temp about 75 to 82 degrees....
...but had the adapter in simi-closed space of a computer cabinet - vented out the back. Computer in the same space was rarely used.
It is a Linksys RTP300 on cable internet with a nearby 802-11g router. On the house wires I have 3 phones: 2 wired, one cordless. |

Yeah, semi-enclosed spaces are really not good for those units. My WRTP54G never gets more than warm, but it's in my basement office that never gets much over 70, on an open shelf. |
