I have now been told by three people at Vonage that they DO NOT offer replacement routers and that my only option if i want a new one is to go to a retail store. I find it hard to believe that. What use is their service without a Voip router?? If mine went out I couldn't get a new one thru Vonage?? After three years of Vonage service I'm thinking I will go elsewhere. I don't like the answers I'm getting here. Also having gone to a few retail stores Voip routers are very limited in what you can purchase.i

I don't understand the question. You can go on Vonage's web site and order a new router to add to your account right now. You would have to pay for it, of course, but they'll ship it to you and you can transfer any and all phone number(s) you own freely between devices, including transferring your number from a non-working device to a working one, all right on the web site.

EDIT: OK, I may stand corrected here. I went on the Vonage web site, and I can no longer find the links to simply add a device to my account like I used to see.

Of course, you could sign up for a new $15 a month line then cancel it, but that's a little more expensive and inconvenient.

Best Buy has the V-phone, the WRTP54G, and the PAP2 available for mail order (in addition to the integrated VTech cordless system). I know I've been in the store and seen a few of the newer devices. Which device specifically are you looking for?

If I go to their web site it asks me to set up a new account. I have tried it and it tells me my current Vonage number "can't be transferred". So it appears I have to setup another line then try to cancel my old one??

Yes, I tried it myself, and I stand corrected - unless someone else can find the feature that used to be there... odd.

Read the edit to my post above - which specific device are you looking for? I think they are all available retail, at least mail order.

You might also want to call and talk to a rep at Vonage. Until the recent web site revamp, they had an "add a device" under the "move a number" feature in the "Add ons" section of your customer page. I swear, it was there. Really. Embarassed

They may still offer devices for sale as an add-on, their web site may just not have the feature any more.

Of course (just to be clear), if you add a device via any means without signing up for a new line, you don't get any rebates on it.

Do NOT setup a new line and then cancel it. If you do you will be charged the full price of $79.99. Keep your existing line and Vonage will add the new device to your account or line.

NateHoy, that link is still there on the Vonage home page..."Bought it a Store? Activate your device now!". Then select "Current Customer Login: Add a Vonage retail device to my account".

Tried the link and when I signed in I got an error page. I think the Voip gods are trying to tell me to keep my current router Smile

Yes, I know, but the question (from the original post) was...

"I have now been told by three people at Vonage that they DO NOT offer replacement routers and that my only option if i want a new one is to go to a retail store."

In other words, I interpreted the original request as "I want to order my replacement/additional device from the Vonage web site, and not from a retail store." The link to do that used to be under the "move your line" feature under "Add Ons". They used to have the "Move to an existing device" like they do now, and an additional "Buy another device" link.

Hmm, interesting.

Here's what I get:

I click on the "Activate a retail device" from www.vonage.com and I get a page that offers the following choices:

Retail Sign Up Options:
- I bought my Vonage device at retail and want to activate a new account.
Current Customer Login:
- Add a Vonage retail device to my account.

I select "Current Customer / Add Retail Device" and I get a little "popunder" that asks for my username and password. I enter my credentials and click on "Continue".

I am then presented with these options:

Please Select One of the Following Options
- I want to add a line to my phone adapter
- I purchased a Vonage phone adapter that I want to add to my account

I select the second option, and I am AGAIN asked if I want to add a line (didn't I already answer this?):

Please Select One of the Following Options
- Add a line to an existing Vonage account
- Move existing line(s) to a new device

Annoying, but it took my answer... Finally, hallelujah!, I am brought to the "Enter the MAC" screen, which of course I cannot enter since I don't have a new retail-purchased Vonage device in my hands. But I have to assume it would work.

If you want to send me a device, I'll be happy to test it for you. I keep the device, though. (GRIN)

That was my interpretation as well.

I understand now. The link you were referring to is when you sign-in to your Vonage web account and select the Add-ons tab.
