I'm a fan of the D-Link DIR-635. Fast router, and provides QoS for voip. I'd probably buy the DIR-655 today, which offers gigabit wired ports. |

Depends on how are you connected, With Wifi or RJ45, Eithernet Cable?
If wifi then go with 104MBs if with Cable does not matter because your internet connection does not go more than 350 or 400 Kpbs, unless you have a T1 connection

Thanks for the laugh my friend!!!!! Here is an idea, if you are going to post some "helpful" information, try to have an idea of what you are talking about. |

Your original post was a little vague. Do you mean the best Vonage-offered router?
In which case, I would recommend the TI Motorola VT2442 device. Vonage has been offering this router/phone adapter combo for almost a year and a half now and doesn't seem to have the issues that the Linksys devices have.
If you're referring to another non-Vonage router to connect to? I would suggest waiting a few more months until they release a bunch of 802.11n wireless routers with MIMO to drive down prices. Everything out there I've seen now is 'draft' 802.11n.
In which case, though I love my D-LINK DI-624, I would have to say go for a Linksys/Cisco Systems router because they offer the most features, security, and customization. |

No I was just wanting to know what hard wired routers were the best vonage offered or other wised. I have used this Linksys one for 2 years and have started to wonder if it isn’t part of the issue I have with my phone service at times. Would like to pick up a second one to test it. I dont need wireless at all just a wired one would be awesome. (keep the cost down too). Thanks for your help. |

In that case, I'd go with what Noct told you- give the VT2442 a try. |

These folks here will guide in the right direction so I dare not dispute anything they suggested. I just find it interesting that I am still using my Linksys WRT54G Version 1 with a very old PAP2 adapter. My WRT54G is so old you can't even use the alternative firmware available for it. Yet my service seems solid. I think my luck has a lot to do with my cable provider here. And I don't think it is the company either. Just like anything else, it isn't as much the name as the equipment in the local cable offices. I'm moving to Tennessee this fall and I hope I have as much luck with my cable provider. If not, I will be rereading these suggestions. But I won't give up my VoIP or Vonage. |

Your best bet, in my opinion, is to stick to a simple Vonage device like the PAP2 or similar, then sink $50 or so into a WRT54GL or compatible router. You can then run aftermarket firmware on it if you want, or the stock stuff isn't too shabby either.
The firmware I use is called "Tomato", and the author has a list of routers it supports right on his web site. The Buffalo routers sometimes go on special for as little as $25-30 after rebates, so they are a cheap way to get a good router:
