I find your link very interesting because it shows the area codes not in use yet. I don't remember seeing it in such an order. It looks like quite a few left, but at the rate we are consuming area codes with wireless phones and multiple lines (yes I am guilty) I assume they will be used up soon. I look forward to the day we stop using the old number system that worked for electromechanical switches and move to a better digital system I believe is coming.

You are right - there are not much area codes left. I think that we are going to move to better digital system which will use IPv6 instead of old phone numbers. With current speed of progress in Voip, IPTV and other IP related devices/applications we should expect in next 10-15 years.
