Under the features with the soft phone it shows enable sms. I called Vonage and was told it isn't available, just wondering why it is on the softphone if it doesn't work.
If someone does have it working, how do they charge you, if there is any charge at all?

The Vonage softphone is a re-branded phone from CounterPath.
All that site does is send an email to number@provider, which is why it only works for U.S., Canadian, and a few foreign providers (and why you have to know the provider to send the message).
Not all providers outside the U.S. and Canada have email to text gateways that are open for all users.

It works when sending sms to a Verizon cell phone, I have yet to try texting other cell providers. I am concerned about the numbers I text being spammed, even though it says on the website they will never spam the numbers.
