For this scenario, definetly only 100k (if that's set as your quality in the Vonage control panel). After the TA on the "house" side, it's all analog, so you could have 4 people on analog phones in the house and it won't effect the bandwidth pull.

From the Vonage website on 3-Way Calling (http://www.vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?article=698&category=0). The format is two column, but copying and pasting didn't transfer well. So, it's Scenario then total bandwidth needed.

Kbps Usage 3-Way Calling is making two calls at one time. Kbps usage is as follows:

Bandwidth Saver enabled and set to 30 Kbps 120

Bandwidth Saver enabled and set to 50 Kbps 140

Default setting of 90 Kbps 180

One call placed, but both handsets in use: no effect

One handset used, on a call and call waiting beeps and I answer it, thus having two calls at the time: you don't have two calls at the same time. you have one, with the option to go to the other one.

3 way calling on the other hand does require double bandwidth: (edit: as pilgrim notes in the post above, it's not necessarily double bandwidth)

thanks for the tips. Just to clarify, I can have as many handsets on my end running, but the bandwidth used is only the amount one call would need (in this case, 50k u/d). The same goes for a call-waiting situation. The only time I would have double is for a 3-way call.

I read both the provided links, and I find one thing odd on the Vonage site regarding 3-way calling. The amount of bandwith needed for a 3-way call on anything less than 90k is actually more than double bandwidth, whereas 90k is double. This does not make sense to me.

Bandwidth Saver enabled and set to 30 Kbps: 120
Bandwidth Saver enabled and set to 50 Kbps: 140
Default setting of 90 Kbps: 180

Why would the lower numbers require more, is it because the smaller sized packets cannot handle 3-way traffic on their own? The 3-way call needs a little extra to make it work?

If that's the case, if I were to place 3-way calls with any regularity, it looks like I am better off just going to 90k calls and manual 180 QoS. Which **** for having anything close to a good upload speed during a call.

good link - that clears up one detail, however, what does the linksys router use for the upstream rate - there is still an ongoing debate as to whether its for the whole upload rate from your ISP, or how much you want it to reserve for voice - the latter sounds more convincing. any word on that?

so when i set my manual upstream rate for voice QoS, i should set it to 180 then right? (bandwidth saver is 90).
