Hi
I've a Motorola VT1000 modem and BSNL Broadband connection of 256 kbps speed.I'm not able to get the dial tone for the phone and internet working using VT1000.
ISP Details:
BSNL 256 kbps home plan
Location: haryana
I have conencted the VT1000 as given here:
ADSL Splitter-->BSNL provided ADSL Modem-->Motorola Modem(WAN Port) ---> PC & Telephone
I have set the Motorola settings to PPoE with ISP username and Password as provided by the ISP.
Now after doing the power cycle of ADSL,VT1000 and Computer I'm still not getting the Dial Tone on my phone.The LED for Telephone line is not coming up.I have enabled DHCP on my comp also.VT1000 is unable to acquire the IP Address and internet is also not working on the computer.
The ADSL modem link does not come up when I connect the new Motorola Modem but if I remove the same then Internet is working fine.
I have tried to do every possible combination but no success.
Can anyone suggest me how to go about it and solve the problem and get my phone and internet working.I have been struggling for 2 weeks now.
Pls reply.
Regards

Hi,
is it just ADSL modem or modem/router.If it is a modem router u may have to configure the vonage device for dhcp.Check with your isp if the pppoe username and password is applied through the modem or the devices connected to modem.

Bhatia, please start by doing a search on the forum for threads about getting things to work with DSL connections in India. Here is one: vonage-forum.com/ftopic17774.html" target="_blank">http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic17774.html . There are a ton of others.
If that doesn't get you working, please post all the technical details listed in the sticky message at the top of the forum. |

Steve
I have already tried many things as per the solutions given in this forum but it is not working...the details as per sticky message are
1. Your location - Haryana India
2. Your ISP name and type - BSNL (ISP Name) & ADSL
3. Upload and download speeds - Connection speed is 256 kbps (not sure what my upload/download speeds are)
4. Modem make and model - Huawei: (exact model i need to check)
5. Type of Vonage adapter used - Motorola VT1000
6. Setup of Network - Huawei modem---->Vonage Motorola VT1000 adapter---->PC & Telephone
7. Issue you are experiencing - Power light on vonage device does not stop blinking and phone1 LED does not light up even once. When i connect my phone on phone1 line i donot get a dial tone and even internet also does not work thru PC.
I think it is ADSL Modem/Router....and i have set the connection in VT1000 as PPoE with user name and password...
PC is set with DHCP sttings.
Pls let me know what else can be tried.
regards

One thing we'd really like to see is the detailed set of results from the forum VoIP/speed test. Look under the forum speed dial dropdown menu. Not only will that give us a measure of your connection quality, but it will also indicate, by either running or not, whether anything is preventiing operation of VoIP.
The real clue here is that neither your phone nor your internet is working with the VT1000 in place. That tells you that you haven't yet got the right combination in place to let the VT1000 connect with your DSL. One thing I always point out at this point is that your ISP should be willing to help you with this. It's a router setup issue, not a Vonage specific issue, and they should be willing to help with that.
Assuming that they aren't, the real clue to how you need to proceed is in the setup that was on your computer before you changed anything. Presumably, you had internet service at that time with the computer plugged directly into the modem. What you need to do is to set the WAN side of your VT1000 up just like that, so it can do what your computer used to do. Then you set up both the VT1000 LAN side and the computer so that they are compatible with one another. Usually that means enabling the VT as a DHCP server and setting up the computer to get its IP automatically. I believe you've already done that part, since your computer is able to communicate with the VT.
One thing to keep in mind is that some services are sensitive to MAC numbers, and so are some modems. If either the service or the modem is looking for the computer's MAC and is unwilling to work with anything else, you may have to address that issue. With modems, sometimes just turning them off for an hour or so will make them "forget" a preferred MAC and become willing to work with a new one. |
