I had bought a really nice Dlink router about 2 months before leaving Lingo. It is the second router, the first one was hit by lightning. I had just replaced it and then decided to switch to Vonage. I have been with Vonage for about 6 months now. I have seen where some companies will allow you to bring you own equipment. I had sent Vonage great customer service an email over a week ago, and then another a few days ago and still waiting on an answer. Does any one know if you can use other equipment with Vonage and if so what do I have to do?
Thanks
danielbo

Unfortunately, Vonage won't allow you to use another company's Voip router with Vonage. You must purchase a Vonage branded router. Though I don't understand why, as I've read that some other Voip providers allow "bring your own" devices.

Since you're already a Vonage customer, I assume - and correct me if I am wrong - that you already have a Vonage branded Voip device with your Vonage service? Are you looking to use your former Voip company's router as a backup? It'd be nice if it could be done, but Vonage doesn't allow it, and don't know if they ever will.

Best thing to do is to call customer service on this, I have sent emails before and either I never received a response or the response never made any sense.

I also believe you can't use another providers adapter on Vonage, nor can you use a Vonage adapter on another provider, on both accounts is wrong. I bought my own Linksys wireless Voip adapter at a store and if I decided to leave Vonage and another provider lets me bring my own device then I should be able to use it.

I bought this when I was with Lingo, but I also bought it from the store. It is a really nice router and a lot of features I am us to. The best part is that it matches all the other equipment that I have. It all stacks together nicely. I paid over $150.00 for it and hate to just toss it. When I call Vonage, sometimes its a job just to make the customer service understand what you are asking. It seems as if it isn't on of the top ten questions they don't know how to answer it. Then all you get is a bunch of nothing and if they get around to give you an answer you feel unsure if it is right or not. This is sad a great company but a really bad customer service.

If you really like that router, you can certainly continue to use it. You may want to replace your Vonage box, whichever one it is, with a D-link VTA or a PAP2. Eiither would perform telephone functions only, leaving the routing to the unit you like.
