TO answer how bad the Vonage customer service is, I have recorded the conversation between me and one of the "supervisors" from NJ. He did not use any foul language but had extremely rude tone, yelling voice and really really unhelpful. They told me that they cannot cancel my service, until I pay $50
I am moving out of The US for 2 years, what can I do with the service. I cannot use this service where I am going, they dont even have high speed internet service there. Why wont they let me cancel the service, since I cannot use it. |

You signed up for the service and agreed to their terms and conditions. That included a $50 early termination fee.
It's not their fault you're moving.
If you're half way thru paying off your car loan, and can't take the car with your, do you expect the lender to take back the car and forget about the remaining payments? Sure, you can let them reposess it, but that has other consequences (on your credit). Likewise you can cancel the credit card Vonage is charging, but that would have similar consequences.
Pay the $50. It's just one of many expenses you'll incur as part of the move.

Be careful with admitting this recording unless you told them the conversation was recorded before it began or you used the proper equipment. Just some friendly advice.
I hate to hear all the bad news where people have expectations and then are disappointed. I also hate fine print. But, nevertheless, it seems it catches us when we least expect it. I can understand their need for a cancellation fee based on their costs of time / material to hook you up. Most service companies do the same thing. But I still hate to hear about it. |

I've had Vonage for over 4 years now, and while their customer service has had its ups and downs, it is still comparable to all the others out there. I switched to Vonage after 12 years of abuse by Verizon, and nothing Vonage does can ever live up to the horrors of what I have gone through with Verizon. I've only talked to one rude Vonage cr in 4 years, and she was in New Jersey. Everyone else has been polite and one girl was so extraordinarily helpful, she even called Time Warner with me on the line to diagnose my problem. The only reasons I would move would be price and customer service. So far it hasn't been as bad as I have been treated at ATT, Verizon, or SWBT over the years, and the price isn't low enough to put up with the hassles of porting my number. So I guess I will stay at Vonage a little while longer. |
