This repeats a topic regarding caller id. I have had Vonage for about 6 months, and recently caller id displays "Line Ringing" or "-Error'" when a call comes in. Interestingly, almost all the calls are from cell phones in the Mid-Atlantic region (calls from, say, upstate New York, display perfectly). I wonder if this is a Verizon Wireless problem and NOT a Vonage problem. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone might have.

Well, caller ID is sent from your carrier. If it's coming up as error, this sounds like more of an issue with a specific carrier, because Vonage legally can't touch or change the Caller ID coming in.

My suggestion is to just call Vonage, have them place test calls to you, see if they can duplicate it.

Hey, if you log into your web account and you mouse over the ID thingie in Activity, can you see the name or does it say error there too

If you see the name on your Activity it's probably an issue with your phone.

Actually, in the Vonage website, the caller id information is there. The plot thickens.

If the caller id information is in the website, then the issue wouldn't be the local carrier ... it would either have to be my phones or Vonage isn't sending the caller is information when it rings my phone (highly unlikely).

That this problem is fairly recent, and there's been no changes to my phones lately, suggests that a change somewhere may be a contributor. But where? I'll some more digging.

For the last couple of days, I have been having problems with caller ID as well. The numbers come up but with wrong times and dates. Not a major issue and I'm sure it will work itself out but I thought I'd add my little problem to this thread.

I have spent entirely too much time on this problem, andI think I have found the answer.

I went to my neighbor, who has the same telephony technology that I do (Comcast ISP and Vonage). When I called that phone from my cellphone, the caller-id information displayed correctly. This told me that the caller-id information was being sent corerectly through the ISP and Vonage.

I returned to my house, and checked all the phones that I have. To my surprise, one of the phones had captured the caller-id information properly ... this was a digital phone that I had recently purchased for a spare bedroom. The other phones are older models, over 6 years old, and these were the pnes that weren't displaying the information properly.

The conclusion that I have to draw is that (a) the technology is working properly, and (b) the handset technology must likely be a determinant of success. I will now likely replace my phones over time to newer digital models.

Problem solved.

Same here. I've never considered caller ID to be very useful anyway. I also get wrong dates, names sometimes but not others, calls with a number sometimes but without at other times (yes, when called from the same number).

Besides, most of the time I use the old fashioned, low-tech, caller ID:

"Hello, who is this? ..."
