I would like to setup my Motorola VT1000 in front of my D-Link 714P+ router. I have read that when NAT is disabled on VT1000, you can get two IPs, one for the VT1000 and one for the router. I am quite sure I can get two IPs because I put a hub behind my DSL modem and have two computers connect to the internet at the same time. My problem is I don't know how to get the router (or any PC for that matter) to work behind the VT1000 when the NAT is turned off.
Right now, I have my VT1000 behind my DI-714P+ router with port forwarding. but I would like to improve the phone quality by swapping the two devices.
if anyone knows how to get the router to work behind VT1000 (NAT off), please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

I do this now. I have a Motorola VT1005 and a D-Link DI-624. Here are the applicable config items:
Motorola
* Turn NAT off. This places the Moto in "bridging" mode. Whatever is plugged into the 2nd ethernet port on the Moto works the same as if it is plugged directly into the cable/DSL modem.
D-Link (or any other router)
* Configure it as normal, as if the Moto is not even there.
My ISP (RoadRunner cable) allows 2 IP addresses. This works like a charm and allows me to easily take advantage of the QOS feature in the Moto and allows the D-Link to be the router/firewall without the Moto's poor firewall features getting in the way.

How do you get NAT to work?
I checked the Enable DHCP/NAT and forwarded 2 ports to 192.168.102.100 (my laptop). Still, no go. I cannot hit the FTP server on my laptop from the outside (internet).
I have no router in place, don't need one. I only have 1 PC (my laptop).
What am I missing?
If I remove the VT1000v and go directly to my Cable Modem (SB5100) then everything works fine. |
