Hi,

I am trying to configure a D-Link VTA-VR to my broadband connection (UT-300R2U ADSL router). However, the power light on the VTA blinks thrice and then pauses before blinking. There is no dial tone and i keep getting the message "Telephone line is NULL".
This is what i have done for the installation.
1) From the ASDL router, i connected the VTA device using the ethernet port. The router is connected to the computer via a USB.
2) Connected the telephone to Phone 1 port.

I have tried powering down/up sequence, but everytime its the same result. The internet light on the VTA device is solid green, the power led blinks thrice and Phone1 led is off.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Are you a new customer? I ask because you have the VTA and you should have gotten an adapter and router in one unit. Such as the Motorola VT2442 or D-Link VWR . If I understand your post correctly, you are trying to hook up both your adapter and computer to the same dsl modem. One via ethernet and one via usb. I don't see how this would work and is probably the reason that you are have troubles. Your ISP only gives you one IP address so your computer is probably grabbing that before your Vonage adapter can. Your dsl modem is not meant to share a connection with multiple devices you need a router for that. You can call Vonage and ask about the models above or you can go to your local store and pick up a router and use your same VTA unit with that. One thing, have you tried unhooking your computer and then rebooting the modem while your VTA is still attached to the modem? If you do this and then you have dial tone your problem is exactly as I described earlier.

Agreed. I don't know how they get away with calling the UT-300R2U a router.

Asrivast27, test what Tglea has told you by removing the computer from the USB port and connecting it via an ethernet port to the UT. Assuming it works, disconnect the computer and plug the VTA into the UT ethernet port. If that works, you've got the problem nailed down.

It's unfortunate, but I'm seeing this more and more. Anything that you connect your computer to is called a router :-(

Even something that is more than a router is called a router. Consider a 5-in-one modem/router/firewall/switch/wireless access point.

Hi,

I've verified that DHCP is enabled on the modem. I was also able to connect the computer via ethernet.
However, when i try to connect the VTA to the modem (using the ethernet), the power led still blinks thrice and there is no phone1 light.
On some posts i saw someone mention some configurations for PPPoE connection. (http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic15178.html). Any idea what configurations i need to change?

Ashish, I don't think you're going to get this to work with the equipment you have. As Tglea said, the D-link is intended to work with a router. Your computer is probably configured at present to work with the UT-300R2U, and may well be configured for PPPoE. What you need is a router that will handle that function and communicate with the UT. Once you have that working, the router could be configured to provide DHCP service to its sub-net, which is where both your computer and Vonage adapter would be.
