My VTECH 8100 device has seemingly failed. It was working 24 hours ago, I awoke this morning to find that the "Ready" light had gone dark on the base station, and the headset could pick up no dial tone. However, the headset does seemingly have a connection to the base station because it doesn't say that it's searching. Right now, the voice messages light is blinking at a consistent 2 second rate, and there are no TX RX lights lit on the back of the device. I have the base station plugged in using the LAN port to the switch side of a WRT54GL router, going out to a cable modem.

Lan Topology: VTECH >>>> WRT54GL >>>>> Cable modem

Am I missing something obvious? Any help would be greatly appreciated Sad

You say that you have the VT LAN port hooked to the WRT54GL. It should be the WAN port.

If that was a typo, have you tried eliminating the WRT54GL and plugging the VT directly into the modem? If not, try it. Also try re-booting everything. Power everything down and then power up in the order modem, WRT, VT, computer. Give each unit time to get up and running before powering on the next device.

My apologies, I meant the WAN port on the base station, and a LAN port on the WRT54GL.

Yes, I have tried a direct connection between the cable modem and the base station. I've even tried to access the web page configuration of the base station at 192.168.15.1 with a laptop of address 192.168.15.10, however because the NIC TX and RX lights don't flash at the back of the base station, I doubt that there is any connectivity to the network. I've switched cables, switched ports on the WRT, and occasionally when I plug the device in, no lights come on whatsoever. Usually the voice messages light flashes or stays permanently lit. In the event that the light doesn't come on at all, I wiggle the power connector and the light voice mail light will flash erratically. If I had to guess, I'd say the power supply inside the device has malfunctioned, because it heats up rather quickly when plugged in, and it smells slightly like burnt toast. Neither of which, in my experiences, are good signs.

Any further suggestions? Thanks for the response by the way Very Happy

No further suggestions. It sounds like you were right from the beginning. The device appears to have failed.
