i'm trying to go from my sympatico dsl modem to my wrt54g to my rt31p2. my internet is working but my Vonage isn't. after a little reading i believe it's whatever "PPPoE" is. i never had to deal with this as i'm a US comcast (cable) subscriber but am now in canada for a couple months and sympatico dsl is what i'll be working with. any help very much appreciated. |

With your setup PPPoE is not the reason, this is caused by something else. Only the device that is actually acquiring the public IP address from your ISP could possibly need PPPoE authentication info. In your setup this would be either the modem or the WRT54G, depending on how things are configured but definitely not the RT31P2.
Is your computer plugged into the WRT54G or RT31P2 when it is getting internet? If its not plugged into the RT31P2, do that and see if you can get online through the Vonage adapter. This will tell us if its having a problem getting a connection to the internet or just having a problem getting to Vonage's servers to get your phones dialtone. |

You have to have your router using PPPoE, good luck with Sympatico that service isn't the best and if you think Vonage customer service is bad wait until you need to contact them. Was cable internet an option where you are? |

i'm getting internet fine going modem -> WRT54G, but get nothing going modem -> RT31P2 so i figured trying to add the RT to the WRT would make it easier but i just can't get it. at home i do the opposite with no problem. not sure what to do from here as i've already put so much time into this. |

I had the linksys wrt54g and when I had dsl instead of obtain ip automatically I had to select PPPoE, that is under the basic setup. Since the RT31P2 is a linksys Voip router, but not wireless you would probably have to do the PPPoE on that as well.
Since this worked for you in the States when you are on cable, everything is the same except you are on DSL. No since in calling Sympatico they don't support routers. Have you called Vonage to see if they can help you? Are you running dry dsl or do you have a Bell line also? |

PPPOE is the protocol that dials a DSL connection, sending your DSL USERNAME AND PASSWORD to log into the server |
