In November I thought I would give Vonage a try. Verizon had told me I could have a stand alone modem. In theory I could, but not in fact. The area in which I live does not have stand alone modem service. I was then without telephone, and internet service. This was a real problem especially at the time I doing substitute teaching. The school system calls me on the morning of the day they need a teacher. No phone - no work. Sad

My number was to be ported over in December. I was told Vonage would not port my number for 30 days. I was then informed that I would be charged a termination fee because I was not terminating the service before my 30 day trial period was over.

So much for the free month - Comcast provided me with a temporary number and I was able to forward calls to my old number to the temporary number. There have been 3 work orders. Vonage has said they would port over the number each time and gave a date that it would take place. It never happened. I was last told that my number would port over in March. I cancelled my Vonage account in April only to find out the number did not port over again. I now have a new position where I also get called to respond. Now that my account is closed, all a caller gets is that the number is not in service. Vonage has been of no help, and seems only interested in prolonging my payments to them. Mad

I would like my old number to be given over to Comcast and the termination charges waived. I already have paid for 4 months of service I have not used. At this point I am ready to complain to the Consumer Protection Dep in MA and NJ. Under 93B MA allows for triple damages. I would rather not go through this process but I do not know how else to get my old number back and the termination fee waived. Any Ideas?

What is the reason that Comcast tells you they can't get the number? Is it something you're doing incorrectly, like trying to port over a disconnected line, or a name mismatch, or something else that may be beyond your control?

I think your best bet may be to sign up for a new account so the line is active, and then call Tech Support and have them put the old number back on your new account (they can do this)...

You'll end up getting a new account with a new money back guarantee. Just make sure you port it out and cancel before the 30 days is up so you don't get charged.

i agree with noct, the only way to get back your number is through Vonage. once you'll have an active account they can have swap your new Vonage number with your old number thus you can now port out that number to comcast.

after transfer of number is complete you need to call Vonage back and close that account and make usre you do that before your 30day trial period ends

Com Cast tells me they do not know why Vonage has not transferred my number. Three work orders have been submitted. Each time Vonage gave a date by which the port out was to be completed. ComCast has repeatedly called and escalated my problem to a supervisor's level. I am told Vonage does not return ComCast's calls. I have not done anything wrong.... my account has been open for all of these months. I had been paying to keep the account open so I could retain the number. Sad

As far as opening a new account and having my old number assigned to it - I was told that Vonage takes 30 days to port out a number. If I open a new account as was suggested, I will miss the free period as a result of Vonage's own policy. When I have discussed this with a Vonage rep I was told to either pay for the added month and the subsequent $100. termination fee or loose my telephone number and pay the $100 fee anyway. Mad

oh alright so you still have an active account? If that's the case then what you can do is add an additional line under promotion to your account, that's 2 mos free no activation no cancellation for the line. Make sure that once you do this you add the line with that number associated with the Vonage account that has been disconnected. It that way you have 60day free period to port number to comcast
