I thought the same thing when I followed the link first... if you check the box next to your number then click continue it will give you who is your carrier.
Thanks |

Cool, cool, cool... we are getting closer.
My provider is Level 3 for my Vonage number. And xcrunxc's theory is that Level 3 and T-Mobile don't like each other, which causes the caller id problem.
So, X has volunteered to set my T-Mobile phone up on his SimulRing to test if my T-Mobile incoming caller ID will work properly with his Vonage number.
If the test goes as suspected, I would need to find a number from the same carrier as his or probably yours, as well. (Or, perhaps, any other than Level 3.) And my inbound T-Mobile caller ID problems will be gone forever. (But, my fingers are still crossed.) |

Good Luck - I have been using the simul ring instead of forwarding my calls and it works great. Also seems to be a good "insurance plan" when "V" has a system outtage...mine worked last time anyway... |

I have a TMo2Go phone, that I use when we are in the US, cuz it's MUCH cheaper than using any of my CDN cells in the US... It happens to roam here in Canada on Rogers Wireless network.. anyways, i just forwarded my Vonage line to my TMo2Go phone and called it from my other cell phone, and the number displayed on my T-Mo phone as +1519200**** .. which is exactly the same as when I dial it directly from that same cell phone.. so no differences at all for me.. |

Hey solar, I sent you a reply to your PM, not sure if you saw it. I set up simulring to your cell on a Vonage XO number(number is in the PM). Feel free to test it whenever you would like. Let us know the results. |

Thanks to xcrunxc's very helpful information and even providing of the test bed number to help me determine the problem and solution.
The test is complete and works like xcrunxc's theory. T-Mobile and Level 3 apparantly do not get along with regards to the inbound caller id to T-Mobile.
Now I am ready to find a new Vonage number that is not from Level 3. But, how do I find a non-Level 3 number from Vonage before I commit with Vonage to the number?
Another question, would a virtual number from Level 3 cause the same problem if the main number were a non-Level 3 number?
Thanks |

Happy to help and glad to see your issue will be resolved with a number change. Now, as for getting a new non-Level 3 number if you really don't care about the area code as you said earlier then just pick a number in the same area as the test number I gave you. That should give you an XO number or for that area possibly Focal(they seem to overlap in that region), but neither should give you a problem. As for the virtual number, that is a good question and I am not 100% sure. The virtual Level 3 number would still get inbound calls from PSTN through Level 3, so they would tack the + on. Now, at this point the call is inside the Vonage network. So, even if the number you are forwarding to is an XO number, it will never actually go through XO as per my understanding as Vonage will just pass the call along internally once it hits their gateways. This would lead me to believe that you would experience the same issue as the call is still taking the same Level 3 -> Vonage -> T-Mobile call route. I could be wrong, but I would have to say you would have the same problem with a Level 3 virtual number. |

I wonder if this could be a phone problem rather than a T-mobile problem.
As someone else posted, '+' is typically used by GSM phones in place of the international dialing prefix. This is because the international prefix changes between countries, and when roaming, GSM phones behave as if you were dialing from the country you are in. Therefore, if '+' wasn't used you would have to change all the numbers in your phonebook when moving between countries with different international prefixes.
It is almost as if your phone is interpreting the incoming '+' from Level 3 and trying to replace it with the international dialing prefix for the US which is 011. However, if this is the case, then it is getting it wrong anyway because it is dropping a '1' and the last two digits. |
