My VPhone worked impeccably since Jan on several different computers, then suddenly stopped 'booting' itself four days ago. Nothing seems to fix it. I run XP SP2

Here's what I've done no avail
1. double clicked away on every executable (hidden files included) on the USB VPhone:
starting with Vonage\autodown.exe on both the E & F drives; it appears on both; Which used to work
Then on "Start Vonage Talk.exe" on the E (1st) drive
THen on "Loadenw.exe" also on the E (1st) drive

2. deleted options.ini file off the USB VPhone key

3. Made sure it gets assigned two disk drives (EF for me in Device Manager), which it infallibly does

3. Of course rebooted the PC many times; changed users logged on; tried other PCs; turned off Firewall temporarily

4. Then, rebooted the Router (as indicated in your forum)

AND NOTHING WORKS. When I plug in the USB VPhone key, it is detected, gets assigned 2 drives, and appears in task manager as one new program "vonagesetupusb.exe" in PROCCESSES,

then the 'Detected V-Phone" screen flashes, and that's the end folks.

No dial pad. No additional proces running.

My 3 hours with 2nd level VONAGE's tech support, they say that my device hasn't been seen trying to make any connection ( handsaking requests) on their server since it went down, despite all these attempts.

Did your v-phone try to take a firmware (software) upgrade, and get interrupted? if so, there's a repair available for it. Contact Vonage, explain what's happening, and have them send you an update file. They can walk you through the upgrade procedure, and it should fix your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Doesn't seem like there was any firmware upgrade going on, according to Vonage. In fact, they never saw any contact between my VPhone and their server as the cause

they've now replaced my VPhone (after 2 1/2 weeks without it)
The new one worked right out of the box.
I think it was a corruption of the software on their VPhone.
Most likely because you can't use XP's 'safely remove hardware' feature because you get the error message 'can't stop' due to the fact that when you shut down the VPHone, it continues to run 'voangeusbsetup' (in processes). So maybe, pulling out the USB connection caused it not to shut down properly and become corrupt.

Now, after i attempt the 'safely remove hardware' and it fails, i do Ctrl-alt-del and manually shut down that Vonage process. Then it will 'safely remove hardware.'

Thanks again for the suggestion though.

Windows XP has a feature where you can disable write caching on your hard disk so you never have to do the safely remove hardware thing.

I believe you open the drive up in my computer, click properties, click the hardware tab, select the v-phone usb and click properties, then go into Policies tab, and set for quick removal.
